Processions in the Maltese Islands are very popular especially around the time of Easter! The locals and whoever offers carry statutes of the different stages of the passion of Christ.

The costumes that they wear are very colourful and shiny. However, the procession can be a bit impressive and you will see why in the next photos below !

These processions are held mostly in Zebbug, Rabat, Vittoriosa and in Gozo at least I am under the impression that one can experience such procession in these places.

In the procession you will see kids and animals and people of all ages. The thing can be very educational and entertaining even though there will be loads of people.

Men cover their faces and carry crosses or chains on their feet. They do this in return of some favour or prayer that they would have made with God. As a young kid I used to be really afraid of them as they used to impress me. Well I guess its only a custom.
