We entered the walk from Tom Perrot Reserve Park and took the South/West path towards North Fremantle. The small river path is called Garungup Park.
Behind me is the Swan River and the towns of Bicton and South Fremantle. Also you can see a few of the many boat marinas that line Swan River... |
Along the Way... Shortly along the path we came to some steps the led down to a small beach along the river, and to a pier that went out about 30 meters into the river. From the peir you could look into the river and see many of the different living things that make their home in the river. The most interesting thing we saw on this day were big Jelly fish... |
Another shot of the small pier and the beautiful Swan River. It was a beautiful day... |
Money Buys Great Views... We were reminded of how poor we were along the path while looking at the beautiful million dollar houses that lined the rivers edge... |
More From Along The Way... Stopped along the way to look over at some of the boat marinas that dotted the river. Directly behind me is Swan Yacht Club and Aquarama Marina, right off Preston Point... |
Looking south down the river behind Nadine you can see some of Rocky Bay, Point Direction, and North Fremantle... |
A nice touch to the path was the gazebo rest area. For lazy walkers like myself and Nadine, we made full use of it. Not to far after the gazebo the walking path comes to an end. The path is about a mile long and is made easy by the cool winds that come off the Swam River. |
Swan River Fun Facts... * The Swan River begins in the Foothills of the Darling Range, and empties out into the Indian ocean in Fremantle Harbor...
* Swan River was named in 1797 by a dutch explorer named Willem de Vlamingh. While traveling up the river he saw a black swan and there for named it Swan River...
* While cleaning the river at the Minim cove site, over 13,920 tones of toxic soil was removed from the river banks... |

Parks and museums, just what I like. I read the story if the Batavia few years ago; I did not know the wreck had been recovered. Cheers from Europe. | Nemorino Tue Nov 8, 2005 08:31 UTC Nice tips with lots of interesting details, like the "petrified kangaroo droppings" -- were you kidding about that, or is it true? (Happy birthday, by the way -- it's mine, too.) |
