Freyas Name Sake
Freya Stark was a brilliant and intrepid woman. An explorer, writer, unofficial diplomat and peace keeper, were among her many skills.
She led a sometimes seemingly lonely but utterly exciting life, travelling to places most unfitting for a solo lady in the early to mid 1900s.
Her passion were the Arabs and the Arabian world, she travelled extensively and wrote about Yemen, Iraq, Turkey, Iran, Syria and Jordan to name a few.
Freya had over 20 books published and in 1972 became a Dame. She died in 1993, 3 months after 100th Birthday. To learn more about her life I recommend you read "Passionate Nomad"

Portugal .
We spent 1 month in Portugal entering in the north from North Spain . Then zig zagging our way southwards for a family reunion in the Algarve.

& Tetouan . She loved the Camel & had a big fuss made of her by the locals.
This was taken in St Andrews church in Tangier. Any Michael Palin fans will recognise Mustapha Chergui ( "Thank you very much") The church warden who Michael interviewed in his Sahara series.

| | At the age of 11 months Freya had her first flight, to Prague in the
Czech Republic
for 5 days. As well as exploring the beautiful city of Prague, we also had time to visit Kutna Hora and Trezin.

| | This was taken in the Ardeche region of France, the place were were staying at had a riding school attached, all Freya wanted to do was go & visit the ponys when were were here.

| | Here she is again getting in to the swing of things with the locals at the Venice Carnival in February 2003. A great time was had by all & looking forward to visiting the carnival another year. |
| | Freya LOVES camping, so far she has camped in Belgium , Bretagne and Cornwall . She thinks it is all very exciting from putting up the tent to using us as a trampoline at the break of dawn!
