What's so interesting about aviation?

To go and see aircraft fly taps into some kind of primortal feeling by many people. To see the power of jet aircraft and helicopters is a thrill, knowing someone is flying it. To see the old, nostalgic aircraft has the allure of the aviation hayday. Many retiered men and women that flew back in, say, the sixties have strong memories by seeing a Comet or Boeing 707.
In Europe the hobby of aircraft spotting is a derrivement of that first time of taking a look at the local airport, or a first flight. A saying by spotters is "once you get jet fuel in your vains you're hooked".
The Brittish and the Dutch tend to be called collectors, I figure this fact is a contributer for the hobby as many wright down and try to collect registration numbers. There are those who listen to the radio communication with scanners and make logs of this. The coming of internet has fast forwarded the enthusiasts world into many networks of communities, message boards, web services, online galleries and personal sites.
