Veggie since the age of 16 ( a long time! (~_~) ). I have been with my husband Derek since 1995 and have a daughter Freya, born in June 2001.
Last Books Read:
Mayada: Daughter Of Iraq by Jean Sasson. "Truly horrific but compelling reading, the true story of an Iraqi woman in one of Sadam Hussains torture prisons. " "The Shadow of the Sun, My African Life" by Ryszard Kapuscinski. "A fantastic book written by a Polish Journalist about his life in post colonial Africa. " "Sand in my Bra", misadventures by women travelling, recommended by Amy ." Amusing stories of women travellers." "Nights of Rain and Stars" by Maeve Binchy. "An easy going novel to get lost in, set on a Greek Island." "Long Way Round" by Ewan Mcgregor & Charley Boorman. "Follows two men biking around the world. " "The Impossible Journey" by Micheal Asher, recommended to me by Grete. " A tale of an intrepid couple travelling east to west accross the Sahara. " "Atlantis of the Sands" by Ranulph Fiennes. " The English explorer writes about his search for the lost city of Ubar in the deserts of Oman. " "The Forgotten Dead" by Ken Small. " Catalogues the events of the tragic practice DDay landings in Slapton, where 100s of men died." "Dark Star Safari" Paul Theroux. " Another great book by Mr Theroux, this time covering the length of Africa. " "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown. " A gripping novel (or is it fact!! ) involving the Catholic church, set in Paris & Britain. "
Currently reading Raw Spirit, by Iain Banks, recommended by John

| | Where To next......................... Where to go next................... The list of places to see before I die is never ending and constantly growing ( Thanks VT! ). But here are a few places which are not optional.
____________________________
India, particularly the north, foothills of the Himalayas, Darjeeling & Kashmir. My grandfather was brought up in Delhi & was sent to school in Darjeeling in the 1920s, so like Sri Lanka this would be an important journey for me. Also Butan, Tibet & Nepal in this area. May I recommend Paul's, wonderful India page

Inland China has fascinated me for years, the politics of China make it hard make it hard for me to justify a visit to this amazing country, but hopefully the winds of change will make it viable one day. Le dilema est très difficile. Mongolia also holds this fascination, the wilderness of the plains and the harsh lifstyle of the people who live there.

| | I love the desert, so far I have only been to the Sahara in the south of Tunisia, and the desert of Wadi Rum in Jordan but the romance of the magical Empty Quarter in Arabia, fuelled by the adventures and writings of Freya Stark, Gertrude Bell, T. E Lawrence, has a real draw for me.
Now, a Trans-Sahara would be amazing too!

I have to admit until very recent years I have never had any desire to vist North America , but since my discovery of VT, and seeing just how much it has to offer in the way of beautiful landscapes from the deserts of barren Death Valley to the beautiful snow capped Rocky Mountains it is an area I would very much love to visit. To see some beautiful photography (and great information) on North America, have a look at Amy's and also Stephen's pages. These are two of the people who have helped change my thoughts through their great pages.
One day I would love to drive across America & I will!
