"OLD PALI ROAD" Kaneohe Travelogue by bryINpoland

Kaneohe Travel Guide: 15 reviews and 56 photos

Once again, Nadine must take a picture with the park sign, its a rule...

Old pali road was built in 1898. The first of now 3 roads that connect the Windward side of Oahu to the Leeward side, via the Koolau mountains...

Unlike this road, the new Pali road now goes thru the mountain, not over...

This picture is walking down from the main lookout along the old Pali that ran down the cliff side of Kaneohe...

Stunning views...

On one of the bends, we pause to take a picture of Nadine and Kaneohe Bay...

Falling rocks...

With steep cliffs comes falling rocks. This is more like a falling boulder. It now makes a nice lazy boy chair to sit back and enjoy the view on...

One of many...

All along the Koolau mountains, you can find waterfalls like this one, that stems from little ponds from above. The number of waterfalls multiply ten folds when it rains. This one is always flowing and is located up one of the valleys right off the old Pali road...

Koolau ridges...

Along the way you get some great shots looking down the Koolau mountain range that was formed over 2 million years ago...

Now a foot path

A lot of the road further down old Pali road is now over grown. There are still clear paths that lead you clearly down the road...

The big picture

From the main lookout point, you can overlook all of Kaneohe, most of Kailua, some of Kahaluu, all of Kaneohe bay, Kaneohe Marine Base, and as far out as Kualoa point...

Aloha Bryan, I lived in Kaneohe and loved it. Nothing like walking the parking lot of Safeway after a tropical rain and the smell of the pavement with the heat was one I will never forget. It actually had an invigorating scent. lol My daughter was married at Haiku Gardens and I really enjoyed Haleiwa Joes. I try to get back more often than not. :-)

Love your opening photo. It captures both the grit and beauty of Kaneohe (even though I know it's at the Pali lookout).
