Tahiti When going almost anywhere in French Polynesia there is almost no way around flying into Papeetee (sp?) (the capital of Tahiti) first and then catching a connecting flight to your final destination from there. We stayed in the Tahiti Beachcomber Parkroyal. The hotel and scenery were wonderful but I don't think that Tahiti offers much that you couldn't find in Hawaii or any other tropical Island. It was a nice stop over on our way to Moorea and Bora Bora though.Picture is of greeting party in Tahiti airport. |
Moorea Next stop was Moorea. We took the 30 minute ferry ride from Tahti but you could fly. The ferry was large and safe and offered some nice views. Moorea can be seen from Tahiti, but is a different island completely. It was more lush and more remote. We stayed at the Beachcomber Parkroyal on Moorea, in an over the water bungalow. It was like having your hotel room hanging over an amazing tropical fish aquarium. We snorkeled right of our deck.I would recommend renting a car at least once and driving around the island. We did that and stopped and checked out some other hotels, shops, secluded beaches etc. It rained frequently while we were there but since none of us were perticularly concerned with a tan, it didn't matter because it was so warm and the rain didn't last very long. |
Bora Bora Our last extended stay before going home was Bora Bora.In my opinion Bora Bora was the most beatiful of the 3 islands that I visited. It is, without question, the most remote.Like on Moorea we stayed in the over the water bungalow and snorkeled. The sea life was a little different, close to the bungalow, than it was on Moorea, but it was still amazing.Of the 3 islands, Bora Bora was my favorite because of the more remote and relaxed atmosphere, the less spoiled scenery (human's presence is more evident every year there, I'm told) and the privacy. The hotel that we stayed at was booked solid but you rarely saw more than 10 or 15 other people at a time, even at meals. You felt like you had the whole place to yourself. |
