Photos of Prague

by emoja - last update: Feb 7, 2005

St. Vitus Cathedral, Prague
St. Vitus Cathedral... massive! i went first with a tour group, and then came the next day to tour it more fully myself. i bought the full pass into St. Vitus, and explored the tombs underneath. it's just as fascinating inside as it is out.
St. Vitus Cathedral, Prague
A Jewish clock, Prague
the Jewish clock actually runs opposite the western clock - you can see the comparison in this picture...

this was taken in the Jewish quarters, a very small area where Jews were basically quarantined for centuries. talk about a history lesson - i didn't realize that the depth of racism against Jews except during the times of Jesus and Hitler...
Jewish Cemetary, Prague
the Jewish cemetary from outside - the coffins are stacked on top of one another - there was so little space to bury the dead. our guide said in some places the coffins are stacked 12 high...
Building in Prague
beautiful architecture, it's so elaborate... that's one of the first things i noticed about prague - all of the wonderful details on the buildings. can you imagine being on the history preservation board in this city?! talk about a dream come true...
Stalins Head used to be here - Prague
a big statue of stalin's head used to stand where this pendulum now is (very top of the hill). when the czechs were deciding whether or not to join the EU, there was a big YES sign on one side, and a NO sign on the other - and the pendulum swung back and forth between them.
Entrance to Charles Bridge, Prague
entrance to the charles bridge... there's a similar one on the other side, but this one definitely feels more massive... these gates were locked tight when prague was invaded in the 1600s - stopping the invaders from accessing Old Town.
view from the River - Prague
take a river cruise if you get the chance. i did an hourlong coffee and cake tour and loved it. even though it was freezing (this was in March), i sat on the top outside level of the boat and enjoyed the scenery.
