Cathedrals

by basbed23 - last update: Mar 11, 2005

Notre Dame is located on the île de la Cité, an island in the middle of the Seine River. Built in the 13th Century, Notre Dame has become one of the most well recognized landmarks in Paris. The church is only about a 10 minute train ride from my flat.
This harpest set up shop in front of Sacré Coeur. It really added to the atmosphere. I go to Sacré Couer fairly often to read and do homework. Its a nice change from sitting in the flat and doing homework.
Nyssa took this picture of us when we went to Sacré Coeur. This was one of the first sights we went to see when she got to Paris.
Eglise Madeleine
Museum? Ancient Ruin? No!! Its a church!!! Eglise Madeleine was built in the style of an ancient Greek Temple. The inside is even more impressive. The floors, walls and celling are all marble with gold leafing. This church plays host to classical concerts year round;
Sainte-Chapelle is located on the île de la cité. This island is home to the Conciergerie and Notre Dame. Sainte-Chapelle was originally constructed to house Christ's Crown of Thorns which were purchased by Louis IX (Saint Louis). The chapel is well known for its 15 meter (50 ft) high stained glass windows.
