The road from Castelo Branco to Monsanto

by haiamisa - last update: Feb 4, 2005

On the road again..
It was a bit tricky to find the way out from Castelo Branco to the road number N233, but we asked some people who were very helpful (as Portuguese are) and they draw us an exact map. We drove to the direction of Penamacor and turned right to road number 239 which changed to IC31 before Monsanto.
Where do they get all the small stones from?
We drove along some rural roads like this one.
Clear directions all the way.

Village on the way
We passed some lovely villages on the way. Definitely off the beaten path!
Suddenly stones in the middle of a field.
Stones by the road
Close to Monsanto
And where did these stones come from?
An attempt to do something about it...
Too heavy!
Monsanto

Beautiful photos of this amazing village! It looks like you had fantastic weather during your visit. I had to laugh when I saw that your husband had no better success than me in trying to straighten that big rock!!

Monsanto was a beautiful forgotten place in Portugal. Today is the most famous of the "historical villages" of the region. Nice picture!
