| | > Europe < 1) Moscow: I'm very curious of the beautiful city of Moscow. For Europeans it is a city with a very mysterious atmosphere. I'd love to see the Red Square, the Metro, the St. Basil's Cathedral and all the fascinating Soviet architecture you find here.
2) Iceland: Nowhere in Europe and nowhere in the entire world you find as beautiful and dramatic nature as in Iceland. Geysers, glaciers and a stunning landscape make this country to an absolute dream destination.
3) Albania: I don't have any idea what to expect from Albania, but somehow the country really fascinates me. It's a complete stranger in Europe where hardly any tourists go to. I want to see what its very own history made of this country. |
| | > Middle East < 1) Jerusalem: No place on earth is loved by more religions then Jerusalem. The history of the capital of the Holy Land goes back many, many centuries. Walking around here must be a very special experience that I really want to feel one day.
2) Istanbul: The gateway from Europe to Asia, from East to West, from Christianity to Islam. Istanbul is a city at the edge of societies which makes it unique. The wonderful location at the Bosporus, the gorgeous buildings and the vivid culture give this city a place on my hit list.
3) Iran: Once the mighty empire of Persia, and today a very closed country with a lot of hardly-discovered beauty like the city of Isfahan: "half of the world". I would love to visit this "half of the world" and the rest of this interesting country. |
| | > Africa < 1) Ethiopia: Africa is the continent of my dreams. And if you search for the real African power, then you have to be in Ethiopia. Wonderful culture, wonderful country, the roots of Rastafarian culture, and the future burial place of the Legend, Bob Marley. This is a must-see!
2) Mali: This country, and actually all the surrounding countries, can get a smile on my face just thinking of them. This part of Africa has everything what makes the continent so special: great cultures, people, music, environment?
3) DR Congo: The biggest country in Central Africa must have a lot to offer, being situated in the green heart if the continent and being a meeting point of so many cultures. I would love to get to know this huge country better somewhere in the near future. |
| | > Asia < 1) Angkor Wat: The hidden city of Angkor Wat really is special to me. I would love to visit this place to see the ancient culture there and to see the fascinating struggle between nature and culture here.
2) India: One of the biggest and most populated countries in the world, with a rich, interesting and colourful culture. Not only the great cities in the north, but also the natural beauty in the south.
3) Tibet: I've always loved huge mountains and the impressive feeling of being small. No better place on earth to feel that feeling then in the Himalaya. And of course I'd love to see the Potala-palace in Lhasa. |
| | > North America < 1) Rocky Mountains: Another mountains-destination on my list. One of the most beautiful areas on earth according to nature and mountains definitely are the Rocky Mountains. The National Parks in Canada and the US surely will have me as a guest one day.
2) New York: If I would be allowed to pick one city outside of Europe to visit tomorrow, I would pick New York. Although I'm not the biggest US-fan, the feeling of walking in the city you always see on TV, really attracts me.
3) Grand Canyon: And of course the US has so much beautiful nature within it's borders. On top of that list is the Grand Canyon. A wonderful piece of work of Mother Earth. A helicopter-flight over this area must be sooo WOW! |
| | > Central America & Caribbean < 1) Cuba: I'm interested in Caribbean music, in colonial architecture, in old cars (only old ones), in communistic politics and in this McDonalds-free country. I really have to visit the island before Fidel is gone and the BigMac takes over the place.
2) Belize: Belize is said the have some of the most beautiful and spectacular reefs in the world, which really attracts me. A visit to the country is not completely without a dive in the Great Blue Hole, where you can dive with turtles, sharks and dolphins.
3) Jamaica: And of course I have to go to Jamaica one day. Not for the rum, not for the 5-stars-resorts, but for the reggae culture. The roots of the music are here and it's still the global centre of the industry. Place like 56 Hope Road, Studio One and the Mausoleum of Bob Marley: must-sees. |
| | > South America < 1) Machu Picchu: Machu Picchu to me is the mirror to the ancient cultures that are lost in America. In no other place you can see the power of these cultures better then here. The city of the Sun is high at my favorite-destinations-list.
2) Patagonia: The southern part of South America to me is one of the most spectacular of nature on earth. The rough power of nature, and its power to create beautiful landscapes, is made clear at the place where the southpole meets the continent.
3) Suriname: This former Dutch colony is one of the few places on earth where my language is spoken, and therefor very special. The people are warm and the rainforest is nearby. I have to see the Amazone one time, so why not in Suriname... |
| | > Australia and Oceania < 1) Great Barrier Reef: I passed my exams for my PADI-licence in Malaysia in January 2006. And of course for every diver this has to be one of my next destinations. There surely is a lot to see in the world above water, but it would be a shame if you'd forget the underwater world.
2) Uluru: The complete nothing in the Australian Outback must be impressive to see. Hundreds of kilometres without seeing anything... And then in the middle of that nothing there is the most famous rock in the world: Uluru.
3) Papua New-Guinea: One of the few places on earth where hardly any foreigners goes to, even though it seems to me that it's a fascinating country with great nature and even greater traditions. |
