THE LOVE OF DREADS
-5 dreadlocks Myths 1. dreadlocks are dirty. Only if you don't wash them. BIG MISTAKE! Clean hair dreads faster than dirty hair. People who care about having healthy dreadlocks wash them at least twice a week. 2. You can't wash dreadlocks. False. You can wash any kind of hair. dreadlocks are no exception. If someone tells you this, assume they have no idea what they are talking about. 3. Not washing and combing your hair is the best way to make dreadlocks. This is how animals and people who don't know what their doing make dreadlocks. 4. Only black people can have dreadlocks. Completely false, anyone can have can have them. 5. You have to shave your head to get rid of dreadlocks. Not True!
.Taking care of your dreadlocks
The most important thing you can do to ensure a healthy set of dreadlocks is wash them at least twice a week with a shampoo that doesn’t leave residue behind, if you do this your dread locks will lock up in less than 3 months. Help your dreadlocks by palm rolling and twisting. palm roll and twist your dread locks whenever your hands are free. The more you palm roll and twist your dreadlocks, the faster the hair will lock.

| Inside the Mongolian yurt |
| | Numerous dwellings for those doing it differently. This is another construction i lived in for a while. It is relatively larger than a TiPi. I made mine from an old hand pedalled sewing machine and it was a biach to do!!- none the less it was well worth the hard earned sweat and tears!
The Mongolian yurt, or ger, is a round, nominally portable, self-supporting structure suitable for camping in comfort. It does not rely on ropes or stakes to hold itself up; rather, the walls, rafters, roof ring, and tensioning bands all work against each other, in a marvel of physics and engineering, to keep the structure standing. It is thus an especially appealing structure for camping events where space is at a premium, such as Pennsic, because all of the space it requires provides useful living space -- no extended ropes are required as they are for pavillions |
| | THE TI PI The 14 foot tipi is a practical size for adult use. It is spacious enough for four to five adults to sit comfortably around a fire, yet it is highly portable. It uses 18'-20' long poles that weigh less and are more transportable on a vehicle than the poles required for the bigger tipis. Its smaller size enables it to better withstand strong winds which means less maintenance when it is left up over an extended period. Setup time for this tipi is less than half an hour.
Tipis 16 feet in diameter and larger provide a spacious living area. Five adults can sleep comfortably in this tipi with plenty of space for gear, kitchen items, etc. The 16 foot tipi takes 17 poles that are 22' long which are still portable and manageable. This size is about the largest tipi that most people can set up without help. The 18 footer will sleep six to eight people comfortably with all their gear. People who live in a tipi live year-round often use an 18 foot tipi.
The 20 footer sleeps nine to eleven people with plenty of space to move around. If you have a large family or are an outfitter who guides small groups, you will want a 20 footer or larger. Two people are needed for setup and for lifting the cover into position.
As said by' Grandmother ........'
It has been said that there is much power in the circle. Perhaps it is because we are conceived out of a circle, the cell, live on a sphere, the Earth, receive energy from the Sun an other spheric body, located in a spiral like galaxy. This is the secret of the Tipi.
Certainly it was central to many native cultures. The Pueblo Indian kivas, the Navajo , the Plains Indian tipis, theYurt of Mongolia, the African huts and the Tipi like structures of the Lapons all drew on the unifying qualities of the round structure.
No matter how much you read or mentally know about the circle as a source or symbol of life on this earth, to experience it is what brings it alive. Let it touch your own reality. It is a way to bring home your commitment to growth and harmony with nature. |
| | BUSES This is a great way of travelling easily when on the road.
Like you will see in my travelogue, i lived in a bus for some time and it really is a wonderful idea!
The great thing about a bus is that while travelling you are comfortable, there are no accomodation costs ( just petrol), and you can make your space feel like the travelling 'home'.
There is plenty of room and you can get very creative with your storage ideas too! |
