Yesterday, 27/1/05, I had to go into the city centre for a meeting in a government building in Westminster...

As it was Holocaust Memorial Day, so security was stepped up around Whitehall and Wesminter Abbey as the Queen was out and about.

I took these pictures on my Nokia 6600 phone as I walked from Charing Cross along the Embankment to the Education offices in Great Smith Street.

Westminster Bridge and St Thomas' Hospital on the south bank where I was born in 1955.... The old maternity block has been torn down and replaced with this faceless ugly pile of concrete now.

Then a few yards away you see this building.

Called Big Ben, but that is really the name of the largest chiming bell that bongs out on the half-hour and hours.

This was taken from the corner of Wesminster Bridge and the Embanment .

On the way back in the afternoon I passed back along the same route and then up Northumberland Avenue to Trafalgar Square and took this one.

It was so cold, the pigeons that the Mayor hasn't managed to exterminate were too cold to fly I think!
