"TAITA HILLS SANCTUARY" Voi Travelogue by sigg

Voi Travel Guide: 0 reviews and 32 photos

Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary - this privately owned sanctuary is 17,000 hectares of rolling savanna accented by dramatic rocky outcrops and small plateaus, a favourite with the lions. As there is plenty of water many animals shelter there including large herds of elephant and many other plains game migrate to the sanctuary from Tsavo each year. Because the sanctuary is privately managed there are fewer vehicles on game drives. The wardens employed to keep track of the animals are in touch with the drivers and pass on information of their whereabouts which can make game drives very exciting and satisfying. Night game viewing and drives are possible from here.

Hilton Salt Lick Lodge

The Salt lick Lodge is very special.
You have a perfect outlook from the rooms to the wildlife- and this Hotel has been here for such a long time (it was buildt in the seventies i think)
So the animals has acceptet it as a part of the landscape , and do not get scared or disturbed to walk around in it's surroundings.....

Secretary-bird

Secretary bird at the waterhole- Salt lick Lodge. You can sit on a big balcony on the top of Salt lick Lodge ,high above the ground , and see all the wildlife around the lodge.

Waterbuck

This beautiful picture is taken just outside Salt lick Lodge,on our afternoon game-drive. The special light as the sun set's makes it even more beautiful.

Big Male Elephant

A big Male elephant drinking from one of the waterholes at Salt lick Lodge.
You may even "go underground" through a tunnel to come very close to the waterhole- very exiting.

Cheetah & Cubs

This Cheetah (with cubs) went on a hunt, just after this picture was taken - it was very exiting to watch.
She was stalking a group of gazelles - and we had a perfect lookoout to both the Predator - and the Pray...

Stalking her pray.

The Cheetah has left her cubs behind -stalking the pray ahed of her. unluckily for her it was not a perfect hunt this time - the Gazelles could notice her , and run away in time .....

Two of the "Big Five"

The Elephant is finished drinking, and taking bath. Now it the Lioness is thirsty.....
