Romance and Travel

by sswagner - last update: Jun 8, 2007

First trip together

Bicycling the Golden Gate
Sheri and I decided to take our first trip together to my favorite city, San Francisco. Can you think of a better place to bring your girlfriend? We rode bicycles together in various parts of the city and even crossed the Golden Gate bridge with them. San Francisco means that there will be much to see, good food, and lots of places to spend time together.
Proposing at Peterhof

The Long Trip

There came a time when I realized I would propose to Sheri. Since she was willing to cross the Rockies for the first time and fly to San Francisco, maybe she would be willing to cross the Atlantic Ocean and go visit the fabulous city of St. Petersburg, Russia. Imagine the romance there with all of its canals, gardens, and palaces. Peter the Great's palace of Peterhof is an ideal place to propose to someone, especially in front of the Grand Cascade. With a simple silver ring hidden in one of those wooden dolls, I proposed and Sheri accepted. She eventually got a better ring after we returned to the states. Russia will always be a trip of a lifetime.
Fuller Garden, Fort Worth Botanic Garden

Wedding Day

For the wedding, we chose the great outdoors in our home city of Fort Worth. That meant getting married at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden. Here is a place where we had visited many times. Naturally, since it was special to both of us, it was the ideal site to be married. Getting married outdoors in March in Texas does have its risks. Thankfully, the weather cooperated, and we were married under the gazebo in the Fuller Garden. The reception was at the Rose Room at the garden center. If you ever want to get married at a garden like this, book as far ahead as you can. These places are very popular.
Governer's Palace, San Antonio

Honeymoon

We did not go too far for the immediate honeymoon. After all, why spend your wedding night on an airplane? So, we went to the most attractive city in Texas--San Antonio. We ate our first meal as a married couple at the restaurant on top of the Tower of Americas. Then, we stayed at a bed and breakfast in the historic King William district of town. Over the course of a long weekend, we enjoyed the missions, the food, the Riverwalk, and a lot of what San Antonio has to offer the visitor. This city was a great way to start our married life, and we would take many trips after that....
