Me..

by shelnlin - last update: May 21, 2006

Things that you didn't know about me...

Trying to be all grown up at age 2
1. I love to write for pleasure (Offline and Online and hope to write my own book one day).

2. I am eldest of three children, my sister Sarah is six years younger than me and my brother Rob is nine years younger than me.

3. My favourite food is Thai but I am a complete eggaholic (eggs are so versatile).

4. I have a passion for Cooking and Travel and enjoy both of these hobbies immensely.

5. English is my native language but I also speak a little bit of Arabic, Japanese and Maori.

6. I love Turkish Coffee

7. I adore peacefulness and my favourite music of all time is hearing birds singing

8. My favourite outdoor temperature is 28 degrees centigrade

9. Those closest to me in my life are known as my "Mafia" and I have various "Mafia" friends... hahahaha My Syrian Mafia, My New Zealand Mafia, My Australian Mafia, My Jordanian Mafia... really they are all harmless honest... ;+)

10. I am a huge fan of British comedy although my all time favourite programme is American (M*A*S*H)

11. My favourite word is "Kewayes" (Qwayziz) which translated from Arabic means "Good". My least favourite word is "Youth" it sounds odd in my tongue... :+P

12. I am short sighted and wear glasses

13. I LOVE Virtualtourist and are very proud to be a member of this wonderful site.
From a young age, I have always loved to write

Did you know?

That I spent almost two years living out in the Middle East and was accepted by the people both men and woman alike and found them to be some of the most hospitable people in the world.

I was a Debutant for the Masonic Lodge in Cairns, Northern Queensland back in 1990 and actually got crowned the "Belle of the Ball" by the District Grand Master!

My favourite colour is green but I am also partial to blue and burnt red as well.

I love my Mother Mary's Cavialer King Charles spaniel "Boogy" pronounced Boogie and he seems to love me more than my Mum and comes to me on command... great dog, Mum calls him mine now!

Two of my best friends and I are known as the Crazy redheads!

I collect Gollys, Antique Pink glass, and Antiques and many other collectiables.. including sugar sachets... yip... when you very rarely take sugar in your coffee (well I hardly do unless it is too strong or is Arabic coffee) what else do you do with those sachets? I have collected them ever since.

I love books so much and have a rather comprehensive selection of them... especially Cookbooks!

Things I miss about my country while I am abroad

1. My Mum Mary
2. The Herald Newpaper and local Community Newspaper
3. NZ Woman's Weekly and Next Magazines
4. The Overall greeness of the country
5. Vegemite spread
6. Boogy the dog (see pic above)
7. Family and friends
8. Soft bread
9. Fresh tap water
10. NZ Diary foods and Seafood
My Mum Mary... she absoutely loves USA!
I was blonde once....

What I always carry with me while overseas

1. My passport, itineary, flight tickets etc... (On arriival I have these stored in a security box at the Hotel).

2. A little of the local currency that I going to

3. Sunscreen and sunglasses

4. Sneakers (trainers)

5. At least two pairs of shorts and a couple of tops, socks, underwear, etc...

6. A day pack

7. A little first aid/makeup bag filled with disprin, plasters, lipstick, mascara, etc... to go into my daypack

8. Toliet bag with the big essentials in it

I always tend to over fill this and now know after a bit of travelling I can pretty much get most of my tolietries at my destination... also its quite fun and sometimes cheaper to purchase things from other countries...Thailand has great little things for us ladies.

9. Tampons... sorry guys but us girls need these.... and in some countries... they don't have them.

10. Paper and a couple of pens...
Can always buy these at your destination too but I like to sit and write about whats going on sometimes around me so I can report it all back to VT for my next Travel page.

11. Bottled water and some kind of sweet candy in case my blood sugar drops... and rehydrating salts if I am in hot weather

12. About 5-6 business cards of the Hotel that I am staying at in case I get lost.

13. If required I will also have a map

14. Common Sense
