Even on Tuesday, when the Louvre is closed, you can have a little visit.
Starting Place du Caroussel
(with the Jardin des Tuileries just behind the Arc de Triomphe du Caroussel)
Crossing the road to reach the Louvre itself, you can see the Pyramide and the square du Louvre.
Left : the Aile Richelieu,
Right : the Aile Denon,
Center : the Pavillon Sully (behind the Pyramide).
Reaching the square : here the aile Richelieu where the temporaries exhibitions are hosted.
Having a closer look at the Pyramide (the main entrance for the museum is just downstairs).
When the museum is open, you will see huge queues here.
Some walk in the covered passageways, here under the arches - Aile Richelieu
From the Passage Richelieu (center of the namesake aisle) you can catch a glimpse of the collections trough the windows.
Reaching the old Louvre :
The Cour Carree (a quasi perfect square, each aisle bring about 112 m) is the eldest surviving part of the Louvre.
Time to double back :
Returning from the Cour Carree to the other side of the square (the aile Denon)
This photo is dedicated toall who always wanted to know how the Louvre's windows were cleaned and never dared to ask.
From Nov 2004 and until Februray.10 2005, when paying a close look at the aile Denon, you could see alittle drummer sitting on the roof (don't worry, an automat, not a child) and if you were lucky enough, you may even have heared him play is drum (he acted as a clock and played each hour, he was part of an exhibition from the italian contemporary artist Maurizio Cattelan).

I am so happy I found your page. Lots of information and lots of fantastic tips that would make a trip to Paris so much better. I will definitely use some of your tips on my trip (unfortunatelly time will not allow me to use them all).
Phenomenal pages about my favorite city! Congrats on the Barney nom!!!
nice "rainbow pic!" Barry in Lafayette
Great Paris page! J'adore Paris! A Norwegian living in Lausanne.
As you will have realised by my 2 emails today I am having fun reading your shopping tips. Can't wait to get there.
Excellent Paris page, Marie!
Joyeux anniversaire Marie! I hope you have a lovely day and a year full of travels!! Cheers from Mexico :)
Researching for my holiday. Do not want to miss anything this time around. Thanks for the lovely tips ;-)
Me again, checking back to read the new tips & updates you have added since last May. I didn't know France has more than 365 sorts of cheese -- one for each day of the year. (Glad to say I'm not lactose intolerant.) Thanks for adding a nice Velib tip.
