Port at Aspo

Are you mad ???
I've no idea why it's called Aspo Mad.....and it's not much of a port either. It's simply the place where the ferry drops off and collects passengers.
Swedish flag

Typically Swedish

Many Swedish houses fly their nations flag and the residents of Aspo are no different. I think it's great to see people showing their pride for their country.

Water means boats

As Aspo is surrounded by water, its only natural that people have their own boats. Actually, I may buy myself a little boat next summer

Drottningskärs Castle

Drottningskärs kastell dates back to 1680 and is the focal point of Aspo. As a strategic Naval base, Karlskrona needed to be protected from attack and the castle overlooks the approaches to the harbour

Historic vandals

Poorly educated yobs scrawling obscenities on walls are not a modern invention. Inside the walls of the castle, you can find examples of graffiti. This example dates back to 1914, before the days of paint spray cans

Lines of defence

Defence

Some of the canon survive and have been restored to show how they would have been positioned to defend Karlskrona

Sea life

As with all marine areas, you will find seagulls. This one was waiting near the ferry after our evenings visit to Aspo
