Starting from Place de la Concorde

The northern part of the Jardin des Tuileries is dominated by the terrasse des Feuillants, named after a neighbouring Benedictine convent.
In summer (July, August) there is a small fair with merry go rounds, lottery, ... on the terasse.

From the Octogonal lake near the entry, you can see the Musée du jeu de Paume (right, a former real tennis court, now used for contemporary photo exhibitions) and the ferris wheel (left, built for the Y2K festivities) in the background.
The ferris wheel isn't a permanent attraction but is present in summer and during winter holidays.
The Jeu de Paume and the musee de l'Orangerie (facing the Jeu de Paume and not to bee seen on this photo) are the only remnants of the Tuileries Palace.

The gardeners house

After entering the gardens from Place de la Concorde, you come across the head gardeners office.
The Tuileries are a very children friendly area, not only can the little ones have a stroll but also take part in gardening, painting, sculpturing and modelling work groups.
The informations about those activities are available from the gardeners office located here (there is also a small library/book shop dedicated to gardening inside).

Feeding the ducks

Among the kids favourite activities are the ducks ans fishes feeding.
In order to do this, they have to bring their own bread crumbs.

In summer they will also find small boats for hire and can sail them on the lakes.

Riding the wooden horses

The attractions include also a traditional merry-go-round
(in summer there are also trampolines)

Having a pony ride

Tiny ponies, a coach and a donkey allow the children to visit the park in an enjoyable manner

Hosting the birds

The gardens offer a large collection of sculptures from the 17th to the 21st century.
I don't know why, but i noticed that the birds systematicaly prefer the classical style.

Modern sculpures

Since the 1996 renovations the sculptures displayed include 46 works from the 20th century both, historical and contemporary in style, here a sort of turtle by Alain Kirili.

In memoriam

At the end of the gardens, near the Louvre, just in front the Pavillon de Marsans, stands this monument. It's the only tangible testimony of the end of an era.
It depicts the 'Fuite a Varenne', when Louis XVI and his family tried to flee Paris at the beginning of the Revolution.

Me again, checking back to read the new tips & updates you have added since last May. I didn't know France has more than 365 sorts of cheese -- one for each day of the year. (Glad to say I'm not lactose intolerant.) Thanks for adding a nice Velib tip.
