Egon's Ancient Artefacts Album vol. 2

by egonwegh - last update: Aug 23, 2008

Bruggelen burial mound

Bruggelen - The Netherlands 2004

Bruggelen burial mound, to be found in the natural reserve area Bruggelen, south of Apeldoorn.
Dolmen of Amure

Amure - France, 2005

Amure in the Dept. Deux-Sevres. Dolmen at the local cemetery. We were pretty sure they had to be out there somewhere, because our map of the area indicated them as pierres megalithiques, but no matter how we tried we were unable to locate them in the fields around the village. A local farmer pointed out the cemetery for us and explained that the fairy Melusine dropped them here. How convenient, that made it a lot easier for us to inspect them.
Tomok, monument to a radja of the Sidabutar family

Tomok (Pulau Samosir) - Indonesia, 2006

Ancient burial monument of a local king or Radja of the Sidabutar family, rulers in the town of Tomok on the island Samosir in Lake Toba, northern Sumatra. An afternoon trip on bike from our hotel in Tuk Tuk. The graves are situated on a small hill. Lots of souvenir shops on both sides of the footpath leading towards this burial site, but no tourists there except the two of us!
Etruscan tomb in Tuscany

Between Florence and Siena, Tuscany (Italy) - 2007

An Etruscan tomb - 7th or 6th century BC - which we explored very thoroughly, in a place called Mt. Calvary between Florence and Siena, 23 May 2007.
Runestone Einangsteinen, near Fagernes (Norway)

Gardberg near Fagernes, V. Slidre (Norway) - 2008

We saw this runestone, the "Einangsteinen", during our summer holiday in Norway on 15 June 2008. The stone bears an inscription dating back to the 4th century AD and is said to be the oldest runestone still standing at its original location - though it was in fact at some time used as a border marker. On the stone is written "I Gudgjest wrote these runes", or so it says on the leaflet we took with us from this place.
