"Spiral Stairs" Personal Page by Buckz

Spiral staircases, I blame Blarney Castle. (Cork, Ireland). When I was 5 or 6 I was brought to Blarney, and we went up the long winding stairs. Which I didn't like. (Mix dislike of small spaces, cowardly aversion to heights and a narrow dark winding stairs and you can get the idea. )Then my Dad kissed the Blarney stone which I wasn't too happy about either (just cos I thought he'd fall, I didn't realise the impact it would have on him and my chances of ever getting a word in edgeways.)

And then we had to go back down the narrow spiral stairs.
Not a chance
No Nada Níl Niet Nein, or Dr Cox's favourite-
Man plummetting down a mine shaft-

Splat.

So after much coaxing I said

No.

So my unfortunate father had to carry me.
Lesson learnt- only go up a spiral staircase if there is some one there to carry you down.

Years later I came to the conclusion that you should do the things that scare you most-or else remember that you could've, but chickened out. That and the great views sent me back up the towers and spires, but I'm still uncomfortable in narrow dark unending winding stairs, and still get a little feeling of achievement to come out onto a terrace or balcony way up high, where I can elbow everyone out of the way and get the photos.
As they say it is the normal looking ones that have the weirdest fetishes...
