One Night in a Karen Village

After leaving my youth expedition groupmates from the R&R, I went with a few friends to visit a Karen village, which is about 2 hours drive up narrow and dusty mountain roads from Chiangmai, with a Singaporean photojournalist who lives in Thailand. Although it was just a short stay, the visit was definitely enriching and well worth the journey.

Xmas Eve Celebration

We reach the village in the late afternoon on Xmas Eve. There was a mini celebration in the church that night. We were singing Xmas carols such as 'Silent Night' in English while the Karen were singing it in their own language. We also held a Xmas gift distribution for the households inside the church. It was an enjoyable night!

Church

This is the church where we had the celebration the night before.

Where we stayed for the night...

The house may seem small but in fact its quite spacious inside.. can hold a lot of people

Passion Fruits and Lilies

The Karen grew mainly passion fruits, lilies and other crops for commercial purposes...

Folks Idling Around

They lead a simple, happy and seeming trouble-free life.......

Kids at the Nursery

We saw this nursery playhouse while we were walking around the village in the morning. They were wearing the caps from the gift packs that we distributed the night before.

My Favourite Kid!

I had a real hard time coaxing this cute little baby as I wanted to carry him so much since the celebration the night before.. hehe in the end I manage to coax him not long before I was about to leave the village.
