We learned how to mix cement with sand and water. Here, I'm using the cement to seal the different layers of the water tanks that we have stacked up earlier.
We also dug trenches to lay new water pipes for the village. Some of us got the opportunity to trek into the forest and assist in sawing and repairing the water pipes along the way.
It was a 3 hour trek from the village to the water source (a small waterfall). The trek can get rather tough at times and there are many leeches around. I ended up with 6 leechbites that cant seem to stop bleeding for sometime. We also saw 2 snakes along the way. One was a rather huge green snake that was camouflaged among the bushes along our path...
We reach the water source after a gruelling trek. We had a short lunch break and relaxation time around the waterfall.
On certain days, we held mini exhibition of a video, art pieces, games and projects done by students of White Sands Primary School in Singapore. In this way, we helped to facilitate some cultural exchange between the Lahu and Singapore school children. We also provide the Lahu kids with handicraft and English lessons during our free time.
We organized a one-day mini carnival with several game stations in the school field. We distributed prizes at the end of the carnival.
Heres our Xmas Tree, freshly chopped from the forest and decorated by our team.... We held a pre Xmas celebration for the villagers and children during our last night of stay in the village. We distributed balloons, soft toys, small gift packs and sparklers for the kids. We also held a mini lucky draw. The kids were especially excited and happy when playing the sparklers that we brought.
