"Dingle Peninsula (Corca Dhuibhne)" Dingle Travelogue by sabsi

Dingle Travel Guide: 226 reviews and 477 photos

Dingle Peninsula is located in the west of Ireland, north of Iveragh peninsula (Ring of Kerry) and Beara peninsula. The main town is Dingle, the highest mountain on the peninsula is Mt. Brandon, Ireland's 2nd highest mountain. The west coast of the peninsula, Slea Head, claims to be the western most point of Europe.

Why don't you have a look how beautiful it is here....?

Slea Head in the evening

One evening we went on the Slea Head drive and found these gorgeous views at the westernmost point of Europe (not counting islands even though Ireland is one ;)

Slea Head during the day

The same place during the day.

Dunquin

The beach of Dunquin. One of the nicest places I have ever seen!!!

My favourite beach

...you can tell from the pic!

The pier for boats to the Blasket Islands

Conor Pass

Apparently this is the highest road in Ireland. I love to watch the shadows move over the hills... it's wonderful. All these landscapes you find on Dingle Peninsula.... and you were wondering why all the tourists come here? ;)

An Daingean (Dingle)

Dingle is the main town of Dingle Peninsula. It's a huge tourist attraction these days so in summer at weekends it's full of cars and traffic jams unfortunately. But during the week and early in the mornings and late at nights you can find its beauty.

Dingle is located in a Gaeltacht region of Ireland - which means people speak Irish here actually but I heard more Irish speaking people in other regions of Ireland.

This boat has been lying around in the harbour of Dingle for quite a time and I think it's a very nice view. But then again... I love ports, and ships, and industrial sights ;) So why wouldn't I love a rusty old fishing boat? ;)

Dingle's main tourist atttraction and most famous "inhabitant" is Fungie, the dolphin. The whole town is crazy about him coz it was Fungie who brought all the tourists and their money here basically. I don't want to think of what will happen if he disappears again .. or even dies. Send a diver with a dolphin fin on his back out into the bay? Ouch!

You can swim with Fungie, read more about it in my travelogue

My favourite bar in Dingle is Foxy John's. During the day it is a hardware shop and bike rental. At night it is a pub where people bring their rented bikes to ;) Wonderful and sooo Irish!

Dingle is also where I tried my first game of pitch & putt (The little Version of Golf). It was very interesting, funny and I actually was more talented than I thought...

...well I had brought my excellent trainer with 20 years golf experience :-)
