AT LAST: MY BOOK!!!

by carolinaEspada - last update: Feb 28, 2005

Do you know "REALLY HAPPY!!!" ?...

The book... YESSSSSSSS!!!!!
This is, finally, my book: "La Telenovela en Venezuela" ("The soap opera in Venezuela"), published by Fundación Bigott, Colección en Venezuela, first edition: September 2004.

On the back of my book it is written:

"La telenovela es una gran historia de amor administrada en cómodas cuotas". Con esta singular afirmación, la investigadora y libretista Carolina Espada aborda las peculiaridades de este género. Su cultivo, orígenes y desarrollo; el oficio de escribir telenovelas; la disciplina de producción que integran actores, tramoyistas, libretistas, luminitos o maquilladores, son algunas de las aristas expuestas por este breve estudio para descubrirnos un mundo más complejo de lo que imaginábamos.

"The TV soap opera is a grand history of love administered in bite-sized chunks.” With this unique declaration, investigator and scriptwriter Carolina Espada confronts the peculiarities of this genre. Its culture, origins and development; the craft of writing soap operas; the production discipline that integrates actors, crew members, scriptwriter, lighting technicians or makeup artists – these are some of the edges exposed in this brief study, revealing to us a more complex world than we imagined".

(Thank you for the translation Robert Lebling!!! oxoxoxox)

On the book cover is a picture (taken right from the t.v. screen) of an unforgettable television romantic couple: Doris Wells and Miguelángel Landa.

Signing books...

From right to left, charming Milagros Medina, hansome Pedro José Acosta, and myself with "The" book... little book... Lots of fun!!! And... with one of my staples: pink pen. Yes: must always have pink.

These are two of my friends from kindergarten, you know...

Getting organized...

Everybody was trying to do that, while Fernando and I -best friend since I was 5 and he was 4- were already posing for the camera... Oh well!

Promotion week!!!

I need more vitamin B!!! Soon!!! This has been non stop: radio stations, newpapers, bookstores and, yesterday: television. I was invited -one hour and ten minutes, live- to "Aló Ciudadano" on Channel 33, Globovisión (and, at the same time, in the radio CNB).

WE HAD FUN. María Isabel, Isabel, José Francisco and I... WE HAD FUN!!! WE HAD A BALL!!! (So did the audience, who participated making phone calls or sending emails). We talked about the soap opera in Latinamerica and in Venezuela, about my little book, about a new soap I'm writing, about an interactive one, and we read a love scene... and laughed so hard!!!

In the picture, from left to right
Isabel, me and María Isabel... at the end of the love scene.

If you want to see more of the t.v. show click this:

and thank you SO much, Alejandro Dembo. Technology always amazes me. I LOVE TECHNOLOGY, dont know how it works, BUT I LOVE IT. THANK YOU.

The end

Enough!!! 22 days promoting this book in radio stations, tv stations, newspapers, magazines, libraries, books stores, presentations, talks and signing books... and on Wednesday 22nd, December, I did my last promotion (at least on 2004) at the Radio Nacional de Venezuela, in the one hour "show" called "Como Ustedes Pueden Ver" ("As you can see") with writer Roberto Hernández Montoya (left in the picture) and journalist Roberto Malaver (right).

We had a BALL!!! I wrote a love and jealousy scene in between "Maigualida" (the girl) and her boyfriend "Juan Angel" (the guy), with the villain: "Luis Felipe" (the villain and Juan Angel's twin brother... of course!!!)

We performed it twice. They exchanged roles. Roberto (left) couldent stop laughing. People phoned and said that he was a better "villain".

With this promotion, on the governement radio channel, in a very politically divided country, it was demostrated that -at least- soap operas unify us all.

Merry Xmas 2004. Peacefull and loving new 2005!!!

Writting about the book...

Some journalists, some readers, some literary experts, some critics. So far, so good... Thank God!

Hello, I am a solo female traveller and I was worried about the airport in Caracas. I have been warned that the road to the main airport is extremely dangerous! Can you please tell me the reality of the airport? Any tips on how to stay safe? Thx
