Spectaular Stuff Eh? | Successfully getting back out |
This isn't the first photo chronologically, but it's one of the most spectacular so I'm putting it as the main one.
This was crew 2's second attempt at getting out & much more successful than their first one. Yes retaining their whole crew while getting through the surf was much better than their first effort losing their Sweep! |
| Hauling the Sweep onboard |
| | Man Overboard, but we've nearly got him back I should have snapped an earlier one than this one to show you how far the Sweep had to swim to get to the boat.
As it is you'll have to enlarge this to see his crewmate helping him get back onboard.
These guys made for a very entertaining early morning for me & the fun here has hardly begun! |
| Waiting for a wave - Looking Good! |
| | Waiting for the "right" wave & Looking Good! So here is Crew 2 looking better than at any other stage of their morning training.
That's because they are stationary waiting for the "right" wave to ride to shore.
Not such a need to click on this photo to enlarge it. lol!
The fun is about to begin! |
| Stroke boys stroke down that wave |
| | Still looking good & on the wave So, here's Crew 2 still looking good as they row, in a pretty co-ordinated way I might add, down the face of the wave.
At this stage the Sweep is doing a good job of keeping them straight, but like the voters in the recent elections in both Australia & the U.S. they are about to take a decided turn to the right! |
| A decided shift to the right! |
| | Yes, it's just a turn to the right Indeed so, but mind you I'm certain they would have all preferred to still be going straight in towards the beach. More control that way you see & much less chance of being swamped by the waves or, worse still turned over.
Things are looking just a bit grim for Surfboat Crew 2. Can they make it & will they meet a watery demise.
You do have to enlarge this photo! |
| | Should we go out & have another go? So, having survived riding the less than wild surf almost to shore they have decided that they need to go back out & have another shot at mastering this riding the wave back in business.
But they aren't reall out of the woods (yes I know the figurative language here isn't really applicable to the ocean, but there you go!) just yet. Trying to row over a wave almost sideways is not the best way to approach it.
However they did manage it & the main photo above is the last photo in the sequence of Surfboat Crew 2 shots when the straighten up & go over the wave you see coming in behind the one they are attempting to go over in this photo.
This one's worth enlarging too!
Well done guys! |

deeper_blue Sun Sep 7, 2008 16:32 UTC nice pages,i like the restaurants | unravelau Fri Apr 20, 2007 12:26 UTC I love your easy way of writing about a place that I frequented as a young person. It was a great place to rage, I seem to remember. Anyway, a gorgeous beach and some nice eateries make it a must see in Sydney. Carole. | iandsmith Tue Sep 19, 2006 22:17 UTC Mmm, I'm sure I've been here. Cheers, Ian | JLBG Sun Aug 27, 2006 06:08 UTC Coogee looks a nice place. You have excellent photos!
