We cancelled all Friday's lectures and took the 8:20 hydrofoil from Hai Phong to Cat Ba island. The trip took around 1.5 hours and cost 180 000 dong. We found a nice hotel with a view to the harbour for only 7USD/double room with air con, so the room was cheaper than at the campus in Haiphong! |
We relaxed on the beach for a couple of days and ate well. Seafood in Cat Ba city was delicious. On Saturday we hired a boat and got acquainted with the national park's waters. The rent of the boat, including the driver and a seafood lunch, was 12 USD/person for the whole day. There was an additional fee for swimming in the national park (7000 dong), which was collected by two guards (wonder where that money actually went...) The weekend was very relaxing, and coming back to the polluted city did not feel appealing! |

Ytamy Sun Mar 12, 2006 18:12 UTC Great Stuff! Any advice for kayaking in Ha Long Bay? Will be in Danang on humanitarian medical team and thought I might do a bit of kayaking afterward. So many travel ads in internet...gets confusing. Thanks, Steve Scott Punta Gorda, Florida USA | aussiedoug Sun Jul 18, 2004 11:02 UTC Vietnam is on my wish list & when I do visit I'll definitely want to see Ha Long Bay & all its natural wonders.
