Travelling Without Moving - Jamiroquai

by AnnaLupilla - last update: Oct 15, 2007

It's A Bird, It's A Plane ...

Hey there,
... it's Anna on the road again! Like you can guess out of my articles, I don't only enjoy being at a certain destination, I also enjoy travelling there itself, being on the road.
So, on this page I want to introduce you to some of the most impressing journeys I've ever made.
It's impossible though to get it in something like a Top 10 or so.

Riding On The City Of New Orleans ...

... for sure was the longest trip on train I ever made in my whole life.
Leaving the city of Chicago (Illinois) from Central Station with the silver Amtrak train, was an event itself, when the dawn came and the city lights were switched on like to wave us goodbye.
Next part I can remember was that incredible feeling of waking up in Memphis, Tennessee.
But the best of it all was for sure the last part of the trip, which began with crossing the sooooo long bridge of Lake Ponchatrain - incredible! - and afterwards to see the Lousiana Swamps pass right beside your window with all the Spanish Moss hanging off the trees.
El Pico de Orizaba

Bustrip from Mérida to Puebla

My first cool trip on the bus ever was the trip from Merida on the Yucatan Peninsula to Puebla in an altitud of 2 160 m. The trip took about 24 hours one-way on ADO GL (don't have the exact schedule right now), and took us through several zones of vegetations.

Recently I made that trip again and I was as amazed as before, as the landscape on the whole trip changed from little less than about 300m above sea level on the Yucatan Peninsula to the rainy State of Tabasco to the cloudy mountains of Orizaba and then you finally get to the amazing City of Mexico.

By ship from Mazatlán to Pichilingüe

Also in Mexico, I made my way from the Pacific Coast of Mazatlán (Sinaloa) to Pichilingüe (Baja California Sur). This trip's never to be forgotten, not only for the dramatic death of a sailor on the ship.
I remember quite good standing on deck for one of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen, cruising on the Sea of Cortes. But, compared to the next morning, this was simply nothing:
Directly after waking up and getting dressed, I got on deck again to enjoy the most wonderful part of the journey. The sun was rising, while we had mainland México on the right and the Peninsula of Baja California on the left hand side as well as the glimmering sea and some fishing ships passing by ... increíble!

From Cabo San Lucas to Tijuana

El viaje de Cabo San Lucas a Tijuana era muy duro, por que lo hice sin interrupciones. My brain is full of Spanish these days, so please mind if you find some Spanish words. Anyway ... although it was a very strenuous trip, sitting in a bus little more than 26 hours and casi without breaks, it was a journey I'll surely never forget.
The bus left Cabo San Lucas in the late afternoon.

Ferrocarril Chihuahua al Pacífico

Another great trip that I did for the trip itself ... january 26 I entered Los Mochis train station early in the morning. The plan was to get the second class train to Creel, but I soon decided for the 1st class, which left one hour earlier. As recommended by various people before, I did the trip from Los Mochis to Creel, then took the bus to Chihuahua, where I arrived late in the night. Yet I remember how I was freezing that night - increíble!!!!!!
South of Miami, Florida from British Airways plane

Magnificent views

Also I enjoy looking out the windows whenever I am in an airplane. Some of the greatest views I remember are the of icebergs of Greenland, flying the North Atlantic route, as well as the landscape of Newfoundland & Labrador (Canada).
