View at Night from Victoria's Peak

Hong Kong

Although I didn't get to do the normal sightseeing that I usually do when I go somwhere, I did get to experience the culture more. I did get the chance to sneak up to the top of Victoria's Peak one night and see the lovely display of artificial lights play against the night sky.

Nam Toon, Sijou, Tiashan

I like to think of Nam Toon fondly because it is the homeland of my family. I went home this year in August 2004, as a pilgrammage home...and boy was it!!

Mountains without snow and stories from my grandfather that are beyond belief...that's what my heritage is made of!!

View from Beifeng Shan, Sijou, Taishan

Beifeng Shan, Sijou, Taishan

Beifeng Shan offered some really great views of the surrounding area of Taishan. It was amazing to see how flat everything was in the valley below and the rolling mountain range surrounding it!

Black Sand Beach - Sijou, Taishan

It was kind of unnerving to see sand that was black on the shores of the South China Sea, however, the local people don't seem to mind. In fact, the sand is reputed to have minerals and nutrients in it that make it very therapeutic.

Chen Ja Si

Chen Ja Si, Guangzhou China

I really liked Chen Ja Si because of its architecture. Being an architecture fanatic, that would be understandable. We just don't get to see these ancient structures in the Western world...for good reason! There is so much care and detail that was put into its construction that it is absolutely amazing!!

Pearl River

I caught this picture of a junk while riding the bus from Taishan to Guangzhou. I only wish I knew the purpose of the boat. According to my cousin's husband, private citizens are not permitted to own boats in China. There are special economic zones such as Shenzhen where it is permitted. They said that it is truly reserved only for citizens with great wealth and/or status. It was an interesting tidbit.
