Car is packed and in we hop.
Some two hours drive from Helsinki and Repovesi is where we will spend the weekend...
The car we leave at the northern gate for no private cars allowed in it.
Yet with our headlights and good local map we securly manage to navigate in the obscure and rainy forest.
Up a hill and down a steep slope but none the less admiring the millions of different shades of blue...
Already from some disctance we make out that we are not going to be alone at the
Several years of watching McGyver have taught us to sharpen our senses and so we smell some burnt soup...
There are 5 hikers and they have already taken the best sleeping places. But fortunately we can squeeze ourselves in.
So we prepare "dinner" and chat around the fire... The night wasn't really cold but since it kept raining it was humid.
Ahhhh... here we are - in mother nature's lap!
The rain doesn't bother us much and so after having had breakfast we hit the trail.
Even though or just because of the rain the thick and massive woods appear in various greens - from deep dark green to light, almost yellowish greens. It is autumn and you can tell.
So at one stage we pass Kuutinlahti - a industrially interesting site, where in the century until 1968 logs have been transported via lakes.
Here between two lakes they had built a channel of wood with flowing water (to ease the log flowing).
Do you guess?
Ask me and I will tell you! = )
Again night falls and we hit the 2nd laavu in the park. And guess who's there? The two ladies from last night's laavu. Later on two guys arrive and happily join our company by the warming fire for rain never really stopped and temperature is around 8 degrees Celsius.
Again we have a delicious meal and enjoy the beer we have carried along - and of course will recycle the cans in the proper way.
This site is in Kuutinlahti (lahti = bay).
The huge rocks have come crumbling down some 9000 years ago due to mechanical erosion.
Temperature differences between winter and summer and enlarging frozen water in the rock's cracks will as years go by cause the rock to break.
The grande finale!
Olhavanvuori just close to the 2nd laavu is truly a fantastic site in the otherwise so flat Finland.
Up-right rock formation with a height up to 55 meters is for all Finns something spectacular.
We even got some hours of sun shine as if to honour the moment at this impressive site.
And so on Sunday afternoon we head back to the car and leave for Helsinki
- Climbing at Olhava
- See All The upright cliff at Olhava
- extraordinary sights
- have sausage in Kuutinlahti
