Wasdale Head Show -- 2004

by into-thin-air - last update: Oct 18, 2004

Bill Bailey Prestenting the trophy
My Favourite local day out of the year is "The Wasdale Head Show"
I have help to organise it for a number of years but this year I wanted to introduce something new -- a vintage section !! I was given the go-ahead by the rest of the committee and am pleased to say that it was a great success with 44 entries on this our first year !!
This photo is John Patrick McBride receiving the "Two pedals trophy" for the best exhibit -- a 1966 Massey Ferguson 135
Heather and Andrew Lopez with their winning Gimmer
The Wasdale Head Show was traditionally a shepherds meat and it is still Very Much a sheep show -- the only sheep on show are the indigenous Herdwick breed -- said to have come to Cumbria with the Vikings !!!!
This year we also has a sheep shearing demonstration and it was also a great success

Start of the fell race
The fell race again drew a big crowd -- the winner, Nick Fish did the return run to the top of Kirk Fell ( 2500 feet) in 38 minutes !!
The line up of the Classic cars and it has to be said -- a classic setting too !!!!

The terrier race
Another Great crowd puller is the terrier race -- a bit of a dangerous sport, especially if you are holding the brush !!!!
A couple of Nice old tractors !!

In the Pub !!!
And in the evening we all retired to the pub and had a Good drink !!!!!!
