| Yes, I live in a war zone... |
Here's some pictures from around my neighborhood. I live in what you might call the "Middle Haight," the block between the Upper Haight and the Lower Haight. These places are all within a block of my house. |
| | Geek City USA Okay, how many places can you name where, on ONE BLOCK, you can find both a comic book store... |
...and a store specializing in Dungeons and Dragons paraphernalia!
| | Whoa there Buster! Before you drop everything and move here, check out the Arco up the strret. Those prices aren't a typo; that's really what we pay for gas! And keep in mind, this is the CHEAP station in the 'hood; most of the others are at least 10 cents more. There's usually a line half a block long to get in here!
Of course, by the time you read this, you'll probably paying this much and we'll be paying $3 a gallon! Thank you President Bush! |
If you're a hosteler, than you'll definitely want to check out 425 Divisadero Street, home of the National Headquarters of AYH. If you need a hostel card or any hosteling info, this is the place to come!
| | Behold! The behemoth Divisadero Touchless CarWash! Their prices are outrageous - for gas AND for carwashes. For those interested in casino-style gambling, you can join the employees pitching quarters and playing dice against the wall (oh, and where do you think they GET those quarters?) On hot days stupid yuppies line up for blocks to get their Explorers scratched. |
An antique store - of sorts. This place contains vintage cooking utensils - great for when you decide to bake scones at the last minute and need a dough cutter. Fun to browse around in but pretty pricey.
| | Finally, here is the SF Patient's Co-op. They only distribute one kind of medicine here. That's right - this is one of those famous pot clubs you've heard about! They require several forms of ID and doctor's notes to get in the door, so don't get any ideas! |

scharfsj Fri Oct 30, 2009 06:06 UTC Locals use the word "The" in front of many district names and leave out the word "district". e.g. "The Mission", "The Sunset", Haight-Ashbury is "The Haight", the Tenderloin district is called "The Tenderloin", and the Castro district is "The Castro". | Jefie Fri Jul 24, 2009 20:11 UTC A nice intro to San Francisco, thanks for the tips! I'm planning my first visit for September, so I'll probably be back to read more. Cheers! | marietaylor41 Tue Jun 23, 2009 16:55 UTC CORRECTION-- We don't like "SAN FRAN" either! Its is NOT OK to use that phrase! You need to correct your own gaff. I'm a fourth generation SF native and we know never to use this annoying nickname. | magnolia55555 Thu May 21, 2009 18:32 UTC um . . . get over yourselves. |
