Peace and solitude of Kornati. Full contact with nature. No shops, petrol stations, no running water.
You can pass through this stunning string of stone pearls on your way to marina which offers electricity and fresh water, or you can anchor and play, enjoy relaxing or dealing with little problems, being creative and resourceful. Combination of both styles works best for me.

The stars are so much brighter here.
And the silence enables you to hear your thoughts ...

Except if your next-boat neighbors are running a power generator for their air-conditioner.
My favorite is the latest model of solar powered Sea Breeze. Unbeatable performance. Unless it's over 30'C, but that doesn't happen very often on the Adriatic.

People have asked me so many times if I really enjoy all that action and adventure and risks.
I do. This is my kind of Perfect Life. I could live on a boat. Any boat with basic comfort, reliable machinery & equipment. Well equipped galley. Plenty of books. Some nick-nacks, games, cards, good stereo & piles of CDs ...

Sounds lovely. But ...
You have to plan and be creative. How much fresh water do you need if weather forces you to stay anchored in some desolate cove for 3 days in a row? How much food? Can you enjoy your holidays even if you have to put extra effort into daily chores? (I don't have a dishwasher nor washing machine for clothes on the boat).
Cookbooks and cutouts and printouts with useful info, like how to bake bread on the BBQ if you can't reach civilization for days. Solar oven would make it easier, I'm thinking about making one.

And the ultimate question: would you be able to laugh once your toilet system fails (it will, some day, trust me!) and you have to roll up your sleeves and dig into the core of the problem?
The Poopy Stories are among most amusing ones, you have to have at least one such story to share with fellow seamen in order to be considered a serious boating expert !
At the beginning, 10 years ago, it seemed like great fun. How naive.
Then after some unpleasant situations, I became scared. I spent so many nights awake if only the wind was a bit louder than usual. Kids were small, I would get silly ideas about tragedies etc.
But for the last 4 years, it's a great even though demanding pleasure.
Some illusions of freedom and some real freedom.

And that gentle rocking before falling asleep....

great place to read about! mmm the food! I love seeking out such remote corners (I never stay very long though :-) The stone shrines are just like Inuktuks up North here. Love them!
