| | Arrival Its strange how some of the important details of transportation, hotels, and seemingly trivial daily activities disappear so quickly. Luckily, I have the habit of writing down each days activities including where I ate and what I saw; now where are those notebooks.... :)
I fully expected my arrival to Bangkok to be hectic and confusing. However, I did not find this to be the case at all; perhaps the amount of tourists entering the country has made the system efficient.
I believe I purchased a taxi ticket and then waited in a small line outside the airport. It was perhaps 11 at night and I had randomly chosen a mediumly priced and rated hotel for the first night with hostel searches planned for the next morning.
I remember lots of suggestions were thrown at me for hotels, but I stuck with my lonely planet and found myself not too far Khao San rd on a side street away from the noise and traffic |
Exploring-Hostels The next morning, I was up early to switch hostel. I found an inexpensive yet clean one nearby and somewhere I have its information written down. I then hopped on the first local bus that passed and started touring the city.
I stopped by a famous Wat for a Thai massage, roamed the streets, and walked as much as possible.
| | River Kwai Early the next morning, I set off for the River Kwai. Upon arrival I rented the service of a rickshaw for the day. I believe I paid around 250 Bhat which I considered affordable.
Did all the river Kwai touristy things including the tiny POW museum, the railroad, and the memorial |
On one side of the bridge, there was a floating restaurant that I ate at. This might have been my first encounter with a full Thai meal and I absolutely loved it. I believe it was affordable, but I was still getting used to the prices and exchange rate. Anyways, I enjoyed it thoroughly
