Munich in a Day | Lovely fountain with beautiful building |
I was in Munich in June 2003.
It was a great visit to this wonderful German city where I stayed with my friend Nicole and her family.
Here are a selection of photos from my first day at Munich! :)
This picture is the scene that would greet you when you alight at Karlsplatz station and proceed to the street level. Lovely, isn't it? |
| | Churches There are many churches in Munich.
And they are all beautiful!
You can check on Mass times quite easily from their noticeboard. And they do conduct service in other languages like English and Italian.
I was stunned by the magnificience of these churches! They reminded me so much of the churches in Rome. |
| | The Marienplatz I was soooo lucky to arrive that Sunday morning to be greeted by the gaily decorated Marienplatz and the festive fair that marked the start of Summer! :)
Here's the extremely famous clock tower with the special joust session. Watch for who wins the match -- the knight who wins is not a fixed thing! :)
This is a must-see when in Munich! Be sure not to miss it! |
| Who's going to win the joust today? |
| | Close up shot of the clock tower See the court gentlemen dancing?
There's this whole pantomine that goes on before the clock chimes.
The golden rooster at the top of the structure will crow when the time is up! :) |
| | Balloons for Sale! I just love this photo!
The man selling the helium-filled balloons just captures that day's festive feel so well!
I love helium-filled balloons! :) |
| | Me at the Marienplatz That U and S you see behind?
That's the sign for the subway and the train lines that would stop at this station! |
| Yummy! Food, glorious Food! |
| | Hmmmm... Yum! The food's good!
The system here is that you pay for your crockery and cutlery -- and you get a proper procelain plate and stainless steel forks and knives. Do take the token they hand out to you.
Once you finish, return it to the shop and they'd refund you the cash you paid for the use of the plate and cutlery!
The same goes for the beer mugs!
These beer mugs are imprinted with the crest of the beer houses or pictures. So if you want a souvenir, just keep the mug and don't refund it. |
| | Feed the ducks at the English Garden Yup! You can feed the duckies at the English Garden.
There are plenty of them there!
Make sure they don't feed on you instead! Some of them are very, very bold and will wander past the low fence and come right at you to be fed!
Soon after this picture was taken, I had to flee from a particularly agressive duck! :) |
