Ireland at Expo 2000

by sabsi - last update: Nov 14, 2004

STYLISH!

The Irish pavilion was great because of its great architecture! Everything was really stylish, the outside and the inside! One of the outside walls was made out of field stones, a really nice idea!

Inside you could feel Irish rain or wind at the "Sensory Wall". Something to be proud of??? ;-)

I loved the film that was shown. It had loads of impressions of Ireland with great music.

It was located on the East ground at the 12th Boulevard

No bar

Unfortunately the Irish didn't play with their stereotype like many other nations did. There was no bar in the pavilion so we always had to go to the west ground to the Irish pub to have a beer ;)

Sheep drinking Guinness

Sometimes you could see these sheep in front of the pavilion. Normally they were knitting - I only saw them drink Guinness on the last day of Expo.

There were some other nice Irish events during the expo. Many concerts of Irish bands such as the Sawdoctors, many Irish folk events etc.

Today

The Irish pavilion is gone. It stayed for a long time after Expo and I was really hoping it would stay in Hannover! Then one day it was gone :(
