We managed to visit the Dam in two ways, we flew over it by Helicopter and we made a road journey out to the dam. |
| | We made the drive out to The hoover dam from Las Vegas, it took us about 40 minutes. Arriving at the dam we drove across it and parked on the Arizona side where there is plenty of free parking.
The day we were there the temps were up to 105 degrees, so take plenty of water with you. |
After a brief bite to eat we decided to take the guided tour. The tour starts off with a short slide show and talk about the construction of the Dam.
| | We then went down into the Generator room and were told exactly how the passing water generates electricity. |
Our return journey to the surface was hampered when the lift/elevator we were in broke down.
Our Guide made light of this and entertained us with stories of the dam. The elevator/lift could not be fixed so we had to walk inside the dam across to the Arizona side, apparently this had'ent happened for a number of years.
