Things I learned

by Amareyui - last update: Nov 9, 2004

One of the not-so-good Chinese restaurant
From my eighteen days experience in Brisbane, I had compiled a list of local specialty I learned about:

-The Chinese eating establishments were not very good.
-Despite the strong Japanese influence, the Japanese food was quite bad. (I know I have been spoiled by living in Vancouver)
-Prices were high. Generally 30% more expensive than Vancouver.
-The road network was more like the States than Canada. (which means the roads were quite good)
-Now that this comparison is made, I think in general Australia is more like the States (Capitalism) than Canada. (Socialism)
-People were quite prideful about being Aussie, with a strong national identity.
-Very friendly and courteous people. (people would go out of their ways to open the door, to greet, to take a picture for you)
-As expected, great influence from the States and Europe.
-The coins were unreasonably large. Even more bizarre: the 50 cents coin was about 4 times bigger than the 2 dollars coin.

Great Brisbane Page! Yes - Koalas and Kangaroos ARE very lazy animals - especially the Koalas. The sky here today is just like in your photo - beautiful and blue :) Trina
