Travel Compadres (AKA People With Drinks)

by Kaspian - last update: Jul 24, 2008

Jon - Masuh, Jordan (2001)

Jon

Tavels together: Temiskaming, Ottawa, Toronto, Quebec City, London (Ontario), Daytona, Orlando, Burks Falls, Playa Del Carmen, Tulum, XCaret, Halifax.

Or, as he calls himself, "Jonathan". Or as I call him, "Ace." Jon's my brother and we seem to get along just fine travelling together.
He's a polymath with hundreds of thousands of locations, facts, and dates at his disposal. While all this information normally only serves him to win (clobber everyone severely) at Trivial Pursuit, it comes it extremely handy when travelling because I have no need to carry a guidebook. He has multiple (6 or 7) language capabilities and picks up culture extremely fast. He also has the same taste in music and same sense of humour as me, allowing us to laugh at things other people wouldn't find funny at all. If you tangle with Jon you may get his secret weapon called "The Fat Grip." It's not a very pleasant experience.
He's an archaeologist specializing in Middle Eastern Roman stuff.
Keith - Tsu, Japan (2003)

Keith

Tavels together: , Burks Falls, Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, Cobourg, Kingston, Morrison, a million other little boontowns.

I learned to love travelling through my parents, but furthered it by doing roadtrips with Keith when we were in our early 20s. Our "have enough gas money, let's go" philosophy proved a blast. Keith is confused by hand-puppets, he talks to them as though they're real people. People find us very hard to take when we hang out together, we've been called "Heckle and Jeckle"--after those two cartoon crows.
He lived in Japan for a few months teaching English but they kicked him out of the country for being unqualified before I could visit. Damn!
Keith's a computer support person.
Visit Keith's VT Page for more information.
Tyson - Toronto, Canada (2003)

Tyson

Travels together: Ottawa, Toronto, miscellaneous highway off ramps.

The advantage and disadvantage about travelling with Tyson are the exact same thing: It is like being in the novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. You can watch the reality you've come to know, and enjoy, descend rapidly into complete madness. It's not even his fault; he tries so hard to live a normal life but insanity follows him around nipping at his heels like a demonized puppy. I've witnessed regular situations turn to complete chaos around him, for no reason. He tries desperately to keep his temper in check while these things start to happen. While these acid-induced-like situations can be fun sometimes, they often turn into train rides to hell. He’s a cursed man who is tortured daily by the gods.
Tyson's a T-shirt printer.
Margaret - Cancun, Mexico (2000)

Margaret

Tavels together: Temiskaming, Toronto, London (Ontario), Cancun. Isla Mujeres, Chichen Itza.

Margaret is a high maintenance gal who readily admit the fact. You will find absolute frustration trying to get her to relax and let her hair down. She has an extensive music collection that is mostly based around rockabilly, old punk, dub reggae, and glam rock. Men from all nationalities look at her first as though seeing a Martian, and then chase after her in complete lust. Despite the wild facade, she secretly aspires to be a completely normal 50s-style housewife. Her running witty commentaries are second only to the cleverest transvestites. Other interests cannot be listed in case her mum reads this someday.
Margaret is a DJ, model, chef, waitress, and veterinary assistant.
Lyndon - Cancun, Mexico (2001)

Lyndon

Tavels together: Mississauga, Cancun, Chichen Itza, XCaret.

Lyndon's superhuman Borg-like computer reasoning abilities can also be applied to real-life scenarios to achieve desired end results. His estimates prove 100% accurate all the time, so there is never any reason to disagree or doubt his opinion and advice. This makes him a great co-conspirator.
Lyndon's a computer programmer.
Me - XCaret, Mexico (2001)

Me - Lonesome Traveller

Tavels together: Everywhere my boots have ever taken me.

Don't be surprised if you ever see me wandering an airport, bus station, or the side of a highway in the middle of nowhere completely alone. I often enjoy the freedom of travelling by myself and the strength and wisdom that comes with it. I think it has something to do with self-learning. Sometimes it's necessary for my mind, sometimes I can't get anybody to come with me, sometimes it gets lonely, but it's always rewarding.

I really do have more friends you know...

I just have to scan the pics.

Where are you going? No one tells me anything. I mailed your $ today in US. You should get it in 2-3 weeks if the Canadian postal service is working at their usual speed. :)
