Puerto de Mogan

The beach in the charming Puerto de Mogan is not so big as many of the others in the south. Most of the tourists prefer the beaches in Puerto Rico or Playa del Ingles. The good thing is that it's not so crowded here. You can spend the day on the beach, and in the evening you can go walking through the beautiful village.

Playa de Amadores

A short walk along the beachpromenade from Puerto Rico lies the beautiful Playa de Amadores. The sand is much whiter than on the rest of the island, because it is actually brought here on boat from the Caribbean. The only problem is that there can be many other tourists here too.

Bahía Blanca

In the middle of Puerto Rico and Playa Amadores lies Bahía Blanca. When you walk along the promenade you come to a staircase that take you down to the sea. It's not a beach here, just stones in the water, and the waves are bigger then in Puerto Rico and Playa Amadores because there is no bay protecting the area. But it's really nice here, and a great place to stop and relax if you are walking between the two other beaches. And the best of all is that there are not so many other people here.

Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is famous for its watersports. The beach is artificial, but quite good, and protected in a bay from the waves. This is a good place if you like sailing, fishing, surfing, diving etc. But there are plenty of tourists here, and the hotels are clinging on to the mountains surrounding the city.

Playa del Ingles

The beach in Playa del Ingles is more than 6 km long, and goes all the way from San Agustín to Maspalomas. Along the beach are cafes, restaurants, shops and other facilities. The problem is that there can be way too many tourists here. If you don't need to hire a sunbed and a parasoll it's better to walk a few minutes to the nearby desert in Maspalomas where you can be almost alone.

Dunas de Maspalomas

Instead of cramming together with all the other tourists on the beach in Playa del Ingles, you can walk a few minutes and find a hidden spot all for yourself in the desert. Or you can just go for a walk along the sea from Playa del Ingles to Maspalomas. Definetly worth the trip. There are also great waves for bodyboarding here. But the desert is also the area for the nudes, so don't be shocked if you see some naked people walking around :)

Playa de Melenara

About half an hour from Playa del Ingles, on the way to Las Palmas, lies the beautiful beach in Melenara. And the best of all is that there is almost no one here, so you have the beach to yourself.

The beach is big and beautiful, the sea is calm and there is a sculpture of King Neptun out in the sea. Around the beach is a beautiful promenade with cafes. If you hire a car for travelling around the island, this is a great place to stop for a swim.

Las Canteras

The beach is 2,5 kilometres long and is bordered with cafes, hotels, restaurants and shops. This is the main touristarea in Las Palmas. Out in the sea is a natural barrier that stops the waves from coming inside to the beach, and its also helping to keep the water inside warm. This is a very popular place to surf.

I couldn't agree more. It's true that many tourists don't seem to know about it but then it's nice that such a beauty is preserved from the masses!

I fell in love with Puerto de la Nieves on my first GC-Trip. But I was shocked to see they built this concrete-harbor some years later. But there are still a lot of nice places left on GC. So I'm looking very much forward to my next visit in October.
