Himeji Castle is on the World Heritage List. In 1333 Norimura Akamatsu built a fort. And his son Sadanori built premises in 1346. The castle we see today is said to be built in the 16th century. It was never destroyed by war or by fire. |
White Heron Castle The castle is a National Treasure of Japan. It is also called the White Heron Castle, because of its elegant appearance.. |
We had one and a half hour to explore the castle. This was to little time. |
At the entrance you can request for a volunteer english guide. Yoshida San knew very much of the castle and live in the castle. He spoke very good english too. Thanks to Yoshida San we know much more about the defence of Japanese Castle and the Himeji Castle in particular. |
This rooftiles are believed to shield the castle from fire. As does the fish often seen on top of Japanese castles. |
Inside the castle we had a beautifull view of Himeji town.
