Summer Passion

Our true summer passion, along with sailing, is our garden. Not only is it important to us today, but in the Summer of 2000, it was instrumental in bringing us together. We have found that we share in the joy of creating a living haven in the city. For the past three years, we have participated in the Buffalo Garden Walk and have welcomed thousands of people through our little yard. I hope these photos will offer the garden we love to all who visit here.

Carol's Rock Garden

Difficult little space

Lots of succulents and loving care.

Space for Reflection & Not Much Else!

Secluded corner.

The farthest corner of our garden is only about ten pace from the nearest. This is a very private spot. The bench under the grape arbor is the best place to enjoy the waterfall and the fish in the pond.

The Shade Garden

Under the spreading Maple tree.

This is a spot with almost continuous shade. We never thought it could be that interesting but Carol has assembled an incredible array of plantings that combine a wide variety of color and texture.

Big Color, Lots of Stuff!

The sunny corner.

This area is just three or four steps from the shade garden but gets a lot more sun. Here we have many different day lilies and our favorite Crocosmia - "Lucifer".

Follow The Winding Path

Huge hosta trail.

Giant Hosta line the path from the entrance, past the shade garden, along the sun garden, to the pond ... all in about eight to ten paces. Small is good!

Love the garden. I tend to be a planner too, but thats all I ever do, nothing gets done, just planned!

Thank you Tom for the lovely comment on my Riomaggiore page. I know you and Carol will love it there. Do make sure you get to the other Cinque Terre villages too if you can, as each has its own unique appeal.

You yard packed with greenery and lovely plants is a wonder. Grreat job-even if one of you digs and the other thinks. Out place is condo-but I took over back rustic area on fringe for a lot of foliage.
