Absolute must see sights

by Jim_Eliason - last update: Jun 11, 2006

Before you die!

Bali
What I have tried to capture here are the places I have been that I would absolutely recommend to my fellow traveller's as jaw dropping must see sights.

This list is by no means all inclusive as I have yet had the opportunity to visit some the world's greatest sights. Nor is the list in order each sight is unique in its own way and list them in order would be a disservice.

Bali- This is not a single sight but a whole island of great sights. Everywhere are ornate temples in lush tropical background.
Machu Pichu

Machu Pichu

The ruins by themselves are dramatic enough. But what really makes this a jaw dropper is the location on the flat top of a needle shaped mountain. On each side of the city is a sheer drop off of 1,000's of feet.

The Forbidden City

No pictures can prepare you for the magnitude of this place. It truly is a city in a city. You enter by walking into a huge courtyard( measured in football fields) and think this must be the main one. Well you pass that gate into yet another larger courtyard. This repeats 3-4 times. Fanastic! Simply the most enormous palace I have ever visited
The Forbidden City
The great wall

The Great Wall of China

The great wall is another astounding feat of the Chinese people. The wall stretches for 1,000's of miles over mountains and through valleys

Grand Palace Bangkok

This must be one of the most colorful and also unique places on the earth.
The Grand Palace
Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon

No words could describe this. My favorite memory looking up to blue skies with clouds below me in the canyon.

Istanbul

A city full of history and monumental architecture. Every where are the remains of 2 of the worlds greatest empires, the Roman and Ottoman.
Istanbul
Louvre

Louvre

The Museum of Museums, the collection of who's who in art here is fantastic along with a large collection of antiquities

Honorable Mention:
The Beaches of Rio de Janerio
Capetown
The British Museum - London
Iguassu Falls - Brasil/Argentina
Kruger national Park - South Africa
Alhambra - Granada

Thank you for visiting the Santa Marta de Ortigueira pages! The area has many names that are found througout my family. Must return to your pages soon, very interesting - but we're in hurricane mode today.
