'Twas the year of 1973

My mom at the Trocadero fountains

'Twas the year of 1973

My parents had both turned 25 and they were on their first trip outside Romania (and for my mom it was to be the last). Romania was under a communist regime in 1973 and people were not allowed to travel. My folks were lucky because my dad was sent to France by the Romanian state, for training in engineering. My mom requested permission to visit him and she was allowed to do it with the condition that I remain in Romania with my grandparents (I was one year old at that time). The communist party figured my parents would not leave me behind. Apparently it worked, since both of them returned to Romania (where unfortunatelly they had to face harder and harder times).

I thought these pictures were lost and I was happy when I found them. They're not good pictures, my parents had just bought their first camera in Paris and it shows. The sites of Paris that they photographed look the same today, the only thing that is different is people's clothes.

I know where you took this photo. From a cafe. I lived in paris for 10 years and this view is familiar. Greetings

Ah yes, Paris! Just back and still feeling the warm glow. Your page attracted me because you've used the same Hemigway quote on your title as I've used on my page.

Love the Paris page - I went there myself in July and have exactly the same views as yourself!
