It all started on April 26, 2004, on the first anniversary of my joining VT on April 26, 2003... Browsing through the Malaysia travel forum, I notice that there was a posting from this Ljubljana lass, Glorija, requesting for information on the border crossing from Thailand to Malaysia... She and her friend, Saso, will be visting Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore for a month arriving in Bangkok on June 30 and leaving Singapore on August 2 after travelling by land thru Thailand and Malaysia... I reply thru the forum giving her details on the border crossing... and after further explanations on the matter, we began our chat on MSN... Thru our regular chat, we found that we have so many things in common, besides travelling, of course...
I also came to know Judy (VT name cpim2004) by providing information on her forum postings on Malaysia and Singapore, back to March 5, 2004... She came to Kuala Lumpur and we first met on March 22, 2004... After she completed what she came for, we went to Port Dickson and then to Melaka... before she return to Singapore for her flight back to Beijing... We arranged to meet again in Bangkok on June 27, when I went there to play golf...
As we were in Bangkok from June 27, I decided to stay back and meet Glorija when she and Saso arrived in Bangkok on June 30.... |

| | Bangkok - June 30... We arrange to meet at the Arnoma Hotel along Rajdamri Road just across the road from the World Trade Centre, where we decided to stay for the night... We have no problems recognizing each other when Glorija and Saso walked into the hotel lobby... It was a fantastic feeling for all of us as this is the first time that we have met....
After checking into the hotel and a short rest, off we went to the Jim Thomson Museum, the four of us... me Glorija, Saso and Judy (VT name cpim2004 from Beijing)... After the guided tour of the Thomson residence, we were off to FoodJunction at Robinson@Silom to have a drink...
After some wonderful time together, we were reluctant to leave for our next meeting... yes... the VT Meeting at Foodloft@Chitlom Central... We reach there in no time, thanks to the efficient BTS Skytrain... Here, we have dinner meeting with Nim (VT name Dora_Heta), Patt (VT name Pattayaraj), Peak (VT name Thelittlevoice), Eric (VT name EricSB)... As with all our meetings, it was a great time, getting to know everybody and sharing our views, travel experiences and many other topics that come along thru the night... After dinner, I took Glorija, Saso and Judy to Patpong to look at the night life... It was an eye opener and shocking experience for our Slovenian friends as they have not seen anything like this before in their life.... certainly not in Europe where they come from... |
| | Bangkok - July 1... After a good night's rest, it certainly was for Glorija and Saso (who had arrived on the previous day after a 20-hour flight), we have a hearty buffet breakfast at the hotel coffee house... we were ready to explore the city,,, we took a taxi to Wat Pho and toured the temple complex including the Reclining Buddha.... Saso had a field time taking pictures of the statues and temple buildings... After seeing Wat Pho, we took the boat at the Tha Tian Pier to cross the river to Wat Arun... (the boat fare is only 2 bahts per person)... we view the various statues and climbed up the first tier of the temple... the upper tiers are closed....
We re-cross the river and took a taxi back to the hotel passing thru Chinatown... We had lunch in the vicinity of the hotel and a quick visit to the Erawan Shrine...And it's time to check out for me to take my flight back to Kuala Lumpur... However, Glorija, Saso and Judy moved out and on to stay and experience life in Khao San Road... We must admit that it was a short time together in Bangkok, but we thoroughly enjoyed it...
As Judy left the following day for Beijing, Glorija and Saso moved south to Koh Tao, Koh Phangan, Krabi and Phuket... before flying to Kuala Lumpur on July 16 where we will meet up again... |

| | Kuala Lumpur - July 16/17/18/19 Glorija and Saso arrived in Kuala Lumpur on the late afternoon of July 16... and stayed in the Impiana Hotel... they like the hotel so much that they extended their stay for the rest of their days in Kuala Lumpur...
On July 16, we had dinner at Soul Out in Desa Sri Hartamas...It was a terrible night after the rain and there were traffic jams in many parts of the City... but lucky for us, there was only minor jam to Soul Out... Following dinner, they were treated to a ride to see Kuala Lumpur at night...
On July 17, we had a whole day tour visiting the KL Tower, Istana Negara, the former Secretariat Building in Jalan Raja, National Mosque, Thean Hou Temple... We had buffet high tea at the PJ Hilton with my local friend, Sally, and then head off to work out the excess food by climbing the 272 steps of Batu Caves... We then have a walk in Chinatown, and skip dinner as we were still full during dinner time... before going back to the hotel and chat until eleven when I have to take my leave...
As I was not free on July 18, Glorija and Saso had the day to themselves and go shopping in Chinatown and Suria KLCC... The following day, I picked them from the hotel and send them to KLIA... for their flight to Kuala Trengganu enroute to Pulau Kapas... we must say that we (together with Sally) had a wonderful time together doing things that we like to do.... It was a pleasure to be able to show them our home city of Kuala Lumpur...
Following Pulau Kapas, Glorija and Saso will visit Taman Negara and Pulau Tioman before our next meeting in Johor Baru on July 29... |

| | Melaka and Johor Bahru (JB) - July 29/30 Calmity struck during their trekking at Taman Negara... Saso sprained his ankle.... and was hobbling along... as such they have to cancel their Pulau Tioman trip and opt for Melaka...
With this new development, I drove to Melaka to pick them and showed them the sights of Melaka... visiting A Formosa, Hang Li Poh well, Jonker Street.. after a good Chinese lunch, we left for Johor Bahru and stopped at Ayer Hitam to look at the pottery and bought some fruits...
Reaching JB, we have a quick bath and later a quick dinner at City Square food court before going over to Singapore to visit the Night Safari... we have an enjoyable time despite the drizzle thru the night... By the time we return to the hotel, it was about 12:00 midnight... |
| | Singapore (Spore) - July 30/31 The following morning, we left for Spore and Sentosa Island after breakfast.... we spend the morning and had lunch in Sentosa...taking in Underwater World... and visiting other attractions... after checking in at the hotel, it was shopping at Orchard Road area.... before we went to Suntec City for the VT Meeting... it was a most memorable VT meeting and that is another story...
The following morning was raining after we have visited the "Durian" at the Esplanade... we then went for breakfast waiting for the shops to open (hehe)... and more shopping again at the Orchard Road/Scotts Road area... and then it was time for me to leave Spore...
I dropped Glorija and Saso at the hotel where they were to put up for their remaining stay in Spore... and headed for KLumpur... it was a short time together and we look forward to meeting up again.. maybe in Slovenia... |
