INTRO

In 1860, Ildefons Cerdà created a new plan fon Barcelona: l'Eixample. In this big part of the city it is a must to visit "El Quadrat d'Or"
-meaning "The Golden Square"-. Where can we find it? it is located in the streets between Aribau an pg de Sant Joan, the Rondas: Sant Pere, Sant Pau i Universitat and Av. Diagonal.
This Square was considered the rich center of the city at the end of the XIXth century in which we can find the most representatives buildings of Modernism.

Let's go for a walk!

Gaudí

Gaudí was born in Reus, in 1852. Studied in the Architecture School of Barcelona and graduated in 1878.

His first work was the street lights which we can still see in Plaça Reial and Pla de Palau.
At this time one could see its own personality at his work, and that was what Count Güell saw on him.
The new upper middle class had their own competition on standing out their mansions, and Count Güell didn't have any doubt on Gaudí's gift.

Gaudí had the freedom for doing what he wanted and gave the best of himself.

Gaudi's works

So, your first time in Barcelona, and you might be asking yourself,... "ok let's visit some Gaudi works, where do I start with?"
That's when maybe, I can help you.

Let's have a glimpse on all his works and the musts.

* Casa Bellesguard
* Casa Vicens
* Col.legi de les Teresianes
* Pavellons Güell
* Park Güell
* Casa Batlló
* Casa Milà
* Casa Calvet
* Sagrada Familia
* Palau Güell

The easiest way to visit them: (from Plaza Catalunya)

Take line 2 from Pg de Gràcia (at Gran Vía Avenue) to Sagrada Familia. After visiting the church, take the chance to visit Sant Pau Hospital by Domènech i Montaner, it is just a few minutes away from Sagrada Familia. Once you're finished, take the busline 74 at the station Av Mare de Déu de Montserrat-Gènova and after 6 stops you must get off at Mare de Déu de la Salut-Hospital de l'Esperança.

To discover Casa Batlló and la Pedrera while you have a little walk up Pg de Gràcia take the line 32 of bus at the station Mare de Déu de la Salut-Hospital de l'Esperança and after 3 stops you must get off at Pl Lesseps-Riera de Vallcarca. Take the line L3 of underground at the station LESSEPS ( Plaça Lesseps) and after 2 stops you must get off at DIAGONAL ( Rambla Catalunya).

If you go straight you'll return to the departure point.

Have a nice walk!!
