Penang - VT Meetings

by chiabh - last update: Aug 15, 2007

First VT Meeting in Penang

at the bungalow....
I was visiting Penang on June 18, 2004 and decided to have dinner with some of my friends and Peh-san....And almost at the last minute, i found that Caroline from Singapore was also in town... Dinner was at the Yellow Light Thai Restaurant...

Attendees
Caroline - Kielorla
Chia - chiabh
Peh-san - Pehsan

Beh HT & wife (Chia's guests)
Chin TW (Chia's guest)
Diana Chia (Chia's guest)
Goy SK (Chia's guest)
Lee GL (Chia's guest)
Looi MS (Chia's guest)

The food was excellent and the fellowship was good.... however, due to some last minute engagement, Peh-san came at about 9:30pm, braving the Friday traffic jam to have her dinner which was set aside for her...

After dinner, the group (with the exception of Mr & Mrs Beh) adjoined to the Bungalow for after-dinner drinks... and it is there that we found out who the real party-goers and seasoned drinkers are.. It is certainly not me as I only drink "neat"...hehe... The night ended after mid-night and not a single person is drunk... you do see now how good they are... with whisky... that was the drink for the night...

Ipoh ~ Penang - 04.03.2007

The day started early as we picked up Vigi from her hotel in Bukit Bintang... A leisurely drive saw us in Ipoh for breakfast at well-recommended Thean Chun coffeeshop... We ordered a variety of hawker food for Vigi to test out and she rated the chicken sar hor fan as the best and out of this world... Although the rated dish is chicken satay, we did not order any as it too early for such a heavy meal... Following breakfast, we dropped in at a coffeeshop in old town for the famous Ipoh white coffee before leaving for Penang...

Upon arrival at Penang, we headed straight to Jade Palace Seafood Restaurant for a yee sang lunch... The lunch was a gathering of my old colleagues in Penang... We had yee sang and othe CNY specialities... There was also a karaoke session as well and Vigi entertained the diners with a Chinese song... It was a good performance and you should hear the loud and long applause for the guest from Hongkong...
an angpow for vigi for her song..

Penang Outing - 04.03.2007

After her performance, Vigi was given an anypow as a Chinese form of appreciation by Chia... The next round of "makan" took place after this as we went to Pulau Tikus for assam laksa and Penang char kuay teow... It was then a quick dash to Penang Road for chendol...

With all the food itinerary, we have to postpone our VT meeting at Queensbay Mall to 4.30pm... We did managed to reach the mall to meet up with Peh San and Mai Ying... see separate posting below... After the meeting, I have to leave for Ipoh while Mai Ying was kind enough to take care of Vigi for me... I understand that their program included the Chap Goh Mei festivities in Penang as it was the last day of the CNY celebrations... and Chap Goh Mei is major celebration in Penang... (I wonder if Vigi did throw any oranges that night)...
at starbucks queensbay mall...

VT Meeting - 04.03.2007

Upon arrival and lunch in Penang, arrangement was made to have a VT meeting at Starbucks at the newly opened Queensbay Mall... The meeting place was at the Borders bookshop... After the arrival of May-ying and Peh-san, we adjourned to the other Starbucks as we couldn't find a table at the Borders Starbucks...

Attendees
Chia - chiabh
May Ying - chinchin
Peh San - Pehsan
Virginia - Vigi

Diana Chia (Chia's guest)

Topics covered naturally include travelling as well as the family... We chat like old friends about many topics... There were also discussions on plans to meet up again in Penang soon...
at coffee bean at the gurney...

VT Meeting - 10.08.2007

We were in Penang for the HSBC Amatuer Golf Tournament and managed to sqeeze in a VT gathering at The Coffee Bean at The Gurney... After many changes on the timing, we finaling get to meet at about 11.00pm... Azri was in Penang with his collegues on a company trip...

Attendees
Azri - Azri_Azmi
Chia - chiabh
Peh San - Pehsan

Diana Chia (Chia's guest)
Rozali - Azri's guest
Zamil - Azri's guest

We meet at the entrance to the hotel and then walk over to The Coffee Bean... It was a nice gathering although it was rather late... Over coffee and tea, we talk about travels and every topic of interest... As it a long day, we decided to call it a day at about 12 midnight...

Hi Chia, It's been awhile since we last chat. Nice tips of Penang. Vistana is a bit far from USM. Kayu is a nice place next to the Hanainese Restaurant. FYI, 1926 is closed. Cheers, SL
