"Irish Festival - Part II" Canton Travelogue by where2next

There was an exhibit that showcased each of the 32 counties in Ireland. There were some that were recognizable such as Dublin. Some, such as Waterford, were new to me. I did not realize that Waterford glass was from Ireland. The scenery of Ireland looks pretty cool and a good mix between seafronts, inland hills, and architecture from old castlers to newer buildings.

During the day there were various competition on the main playing field. Here folks were playing Gaelic Football which is a cross between soccer and rugby.

The competition was pretty intense.

Later in the day folks were playing Hurling, which is somewhat like Lacrosse. I had not seen too much of this sport - seemed rather difficult to play. Much easier to watch while drinking a Guinness.

There were a couple restaurant tents. I went for the shorter line and had some Fish 'n' Chips. I did not realize this was an Irish fare (thought it was English in origin). I spoke to the local Irish bartender and he said most folks will order these after being at a pub and that it wasn't usually something that was cooked at home.

In addition to all of the above, the grounds had a section for a small kids amusement park. I saw this ride as I passed by... a "Berry-Go-Round".

These were two of the music tents.

Overall, the Irish Fest was a good time and I would recommend that if you are in Boston in June to keep an eye out for this event.
