KLumpur - VT Meetings 2

by chiabh - last update: Sep 3, 2008

June 2004

@ Milwaukee Steak House....
The June monthly meeting was held at the Milwaukee Steak House in Kepong, a sub-urb of KLumpur... Well attended by 11 Vters and 3 guests, it was a good meeting...a change of environment, an inprompt catwalk by a guest and also some anxious moments for Jen when she found that she has lost her wallet (luckily she found out after the dinner so that dinner was not spoilt).... Dinner was ala carte with individual orders of steak, chicken and spagetti... It was indeed a night to remember....

Attendees:
Audrey - Audrey118
Chia - Chiabh
David - City_Guy
Jen - Jenniferchin
Marcia - Quero
Mason - Masonwong
Mei-leng - Dragontml
Peter - Petertktan
Pierangelo - Pierangelo
Shahrin - Rezeik
Suzaila - Suzaila

Leeann (Jen's guest)
Lilian (David's guest)

For the record, all is well that ends well.... a good samaritan found the wallet and Jen was able to retrieve it after a few telephone calls...so there are honest Malaysians around as well....

The meeting was a simple tea meeting as we had our tea tarik to welcome Shannon and her friends... Although it was the first time we met, all talked like old pals...Jen did not lose her wallet this time...hehe... and we go thru travel pics of Deni to India (using the digital camera)... we had a nice time talking about old times and exchange travel stories... we left in the evening and looking forward to the next meeting...

November 2004

On November 2, I met up with Jackie (VT name Acepups) who was travelling with her family from Wolverhampton (in England) to Perth (in Australia)... As the Kangaroo Route is long, they had an overnight break in Kuala Lumpur... We had tea in the Federal Hotel where they are staying and talk like old time friends... Our discussion centered on solo flights by single engine aircraft with her husband Pete.. who is in the process of completing building his own aircraft to fly from England to Spain... With the couple is their daughter, Andrea and her playful son Scott... Have a great journey to Perth, and I hope to see you again...
CitiCafe at Cititel, Mid Valley Megamall...

December 2004

When Ammy dropped me a line that she will be in Kuala Lumpur for Christmas, a VT lunch meeting was planned and held on Christmas Eve... As this is a working day, working KLumpur VTers were not able to attend... However, the crowd grew to 5 VTers and 4 guests as the meeting day approached..

Ammy - Ammy28
Chia - Chiabh
Mark - Berserker
Shannon - Cheekychic

Diana (Chia's guest)

Lunch was at the CitiCafe at Cititel, Mid Valley Megamall... Almost everyone was punctual at the scheduled time and we had a good Christmas buffet lunch including turkey cum stuffing... It was like a meeting of friends that we have not seen for a long time... and everyone was busying talking to everyone... getting to know you and also exchanging notes on their travellings... Local VTers also give general information and advice to visiting VTers on the places to see and complexes to shop in KLumpur...

After lunch, the visitors have a first hand shopping experience at the Mid Valley Megamall.... They were then taken to Lot 10 and the shopping belt at Bukit Bintang (for more shopping)... We took leave and it was arranged that they will welcome Christmas at Zouk...

It was a good meeting (and lunch)... but we were a bit disappointed that not more KLumpur VTers can join us...

On December 26, we met up with Mirka and her family at the Planet Hollywood at KL Plaza... We had drinks and talked about our travel plans and experiences... surprise, surprised!!!...we were then approached by fellow vters Andy who saw our forum posting and drop in to say hello... it was a pleasant afternoon... and a good fellowship... the following were present:

Mirka - MirkaKripac

Diana (Chia's guest)
Theresa (Andy's spouse)

We had tea and there was time to get to know each other better... particularly Vters who we have met for the first time...

This was followed by various suggestion for a restaurant for dinner... and finaly it was decided that dinner will be at Madam Kwan upstairs... As i have to take my leave... the dinner program will have to be contributed by Audrey...

VT Cassy from Jakarta, Indonesia

When Cassy came to town, it was Audrey (again) who called for a VT meeting for February 16, 2005... Lunch was fixed at the Bukhara in KLCC... Despite the short notice, there was a total of 7 VTers and 2 guests met at Bukhara...

Audrey, Kevin, Cassy and her sister Eva was already seated when I arrived... and the rest of the crowd followed soon after... We ordered our lunch and I was recommended the Bukhara Polo, which I took... It turned out to be something like chicken berani but it was tasty and good... Although there are Vters who we have met only for the first time, we talked about our travels (and everything as well) like old friends...

Following lunch and following the visit to the KLCC Skybridge by Audrey, Cassy and Eva, Audrey treated the 3 of us to a fruit fondue at the Chocs & Dips outlet... Unfortunately, the others have to go back to work as it is a working day...We continued our chat before saying goodbye to beat the after office traffic jam home... So the next meeting with Cassy... will have to be in Jakarta...
at the house of sundanese...

June 4, 2005

The day started with a trip to Melaka with Aida, Bernard and Shannon... Rushing all the way back from the Historical City, we still have some time to tour the KLCC Park before meeting Audrey, Rachel and Andrew for dinner at the House of Sundanese...

The food was good and talks were mostly on travelling and everything of mutual interest... The dinner ended with everyone hoping to meet again one day...

August 2005 - Farewell Dinner to Marcia & Sam

As Sam informed us that he will be transferred to Bangkok, Audrey was frantic in arranging a farewell dinner for the nice VT couple and try to fit into their busy schedule of moving house... Finally, we were able to hold it on August 13 and the guests chose the Passage Thru India Restaurant (not that they are being re-located to India... hehe..)

To show how Marcia and Sam are treated as one of us and as good friends, the dinner was well attended by 16 Vters and 2 guests,

Attendees:

Pic: Audrey, Patricia, Debbie, Benjamin, Nisa, Mei-ling, Mason, James, Terence and Keny (camera shy), Peter (white shirt), Marcia, Jen (half hidden), Diana, Sam, Chia and Lily... and Andrew (the cameraman)

The highlight of the night is certainly the arrival of Peter in an Indian costume to blend in with the atmosphere (sorry Peter, if you have informed me earlier, I would have rented a costume so that you will not be alone)... We ordered sufficient food to go round and it was good fellowship with everyone taking the time to wish Marcia and Sam all the best in the Land of Smiles... Even before their departure, plans were already being made to meet up with them in Phuket in November 2005...

So all the best to you, Marcia and Sam, we will certainly miss you in our KLumpur VT meetings but of course, we will see you again whenever you come to KLumpur... or we will drop in at Bangkok or Phuket to see you,... At least, we have a reason now to go to Thailand... hehe..

The party did not end until we cut the birthday cake for Keny and Audrey, who celebrated his ?? birthday on the same night while Audrey's birthday was 2 days earlier... Audrey was kind enough to bake a cake for the occasion... Happy Birthday to both of them...

Our television program featured this fine country as a better place to invest and live some of the year, and say nearly tax free for foreigners. Great pictures and comments of this lovely city.
