EL Rastro

Favorite place in Madrid: EL RASTRO

Carlos Arniches
El Rastro is the flea market in madrid. Saturdays and Sundays you can buy almost anything you can imagine. I don't usually buy but i like to go to ckeck, to see and to live a Sunday in El Rastro. I used to go with my dad when i was a kid and now we sometimes go together. However, my sis and mum hate it, too many people, the sun....
The Flea Market was originally situated in a slaughter house and the trace of blood that the dead animals left gave the name of the flea market in madrid.
There is a big controversy now because the council wants to move El Rastro to another area in Madrid
Ribera de Curtidores
This is the main street and as you see is full of "shops". It was croded today and very hot but it's always nice. Be careful with wallets and camaras, just before i took this picture i saw how someone was stolen!
Mira el Sol
There are also many bars to eat something, typical dishes are snails but...
La Taberna del Rastro
This is my favority place for a beer after el Rastro, It's called La Taberna del Rastro in Santa Ana Street.
My friend Monika, she loves El Rastro very much now, like if she were from Madrid.
El Mentidero
After the visit, the bar visit starts and normally after La Taberna we move to La Latina area. This is one of the bars in El Almendro street, in this place they have many diferent and good wines, the music is also good.
Like 3 years ago, everybody was drinking and eating in the street, not now because the police is always waching that the law is ok! so no more street drinking or at least not as i remember!
In the picture Monika, her brother and his girfriend.
El Almendro
Even kids have fun! look at little Candela, she is having a great Sunday! Many young people go with kids because you spend many time in teh street, more than in bars.
It's funny because today i met some friends by coincidence, it's always like that, every Sunday i go i met someone.
Vda. de Vacas
Well, this was my lunch today! we usually eat tapas but today we had lunch at 4:20 p.m, after El Mentidero and El Bonanno. The lunch was bull's tail. Monika's family from Switzerland were horrified to eat this(cesar and me (the 2 from Madrid)told them it was ok, more than ok, very good). I think the problem is that we were waching a bullfight the other day so this influences a little bit. finally, they agreed that it was delicious. It's the speciality of the house: Vda. de Vacas, a typical Madrid old stile restaurant in Cava Alta street, 23.
San Andres
After lunch, sunbathing in the street, tll next Sunday!
I have many adventures these Sundays, because sometimes we finish late and in not very good conditions. But to tell the truth, i go teh gym and swimminpool here, so before El Rastro or La Latina i exercise a little bit. Then bad habits...
